My personal favorite: Ben>http://theater2.nytimes.com/2006/04/26/theater/reviews/26lest.html>Ben Brantley on Lestat
Choice bits: "Joining the ranks of Ambien, Lunesta, Sonata and other prescription lullaby drugs is "Lestat," the musical sleeping pill that opened last night at the Palace Theater."
"He so adores his mom, a marquise (played by the ever-game power balladeer Carolee Carmello), that he makes her a vampire too, giving her a chance to dress up like one of the boys, join the hunt and become the undead's answer to Auntie Mame."
"The song's title, repeated imperiously throughout the lyrics, is "I Want More." So do we, little Claudia. But this show isn't the place to find it."
It's a great article. I saved it and read it aloud to anyone who would listen.
I remember when we watched poto...when the credits (the film vers. mind you) started to roll. They looked at me and simply said.
"Oh..."
lmao...I knew they didnt want to say anything bad assuming I would go crazy....it was the best word to sum up what they felt.
Haha this reminds from a line from Curtains! Something along the lines of:
"It was her star vehicle. A vehicle I wish she would drive off a cliff."

My favorite comes from a movie review:
Name of movie "A Fine Mess"
Critic review: "A wretched mess.
"It wasnt my cup of tea."
"I got sick after Act 1 and had to go home."
"The songs were....ummmm...nevermind."
Ben Brantley ~ "Good Vibrations" sacrifices itself, night after night and with considerable anguish, to make all other musicals on Broadway look good.
Light In The Piazza is now playing here in LA, and I couldn't help but laugh at one of their ads: "A Ravishing Production To Look At."
Is that the BEST they could do as far as pull quotes?

Stealing from another medium, in the early-80s, there was a band formed from former members of Genesis and Yes called GTR. In Guitar Player magazine, JD Considine reviewed the self-titled album in one word: "SHT."

My friend said:
"and all of a sudden, the thought of Les Mis came up in my head and I got jealous of those characters in Les Mis."
If one is evoking the spirit (and words) of Dorothy Parker, one would do well to be accurate:
>> In a 1933 review of the play
"The Lake" starring Katherine Hepburn:
"Miss Hepburn runs the gamut of emotions
from A to B."
Like Ms. Parker, the original line is direct, cutting, and wry. It doesnt need any "t-t-t", thank you. Another of her gems:
>> "The House Beautiful is The Play Lousy."
and of her book reviews, which could be even crueler:
>> "This is not a novel to be
tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force."
and the ever classic barb against A. A. Milne, whom she loathed with a passion:
>> In a New Yorker review of
A.A. Milne's House at Pooh Corner:
"Tonstant weader fwowed up."
Depending on how you read it, I just came across this one that made me chuckle and could be perceived as bad:
"With hilarious pronunciation, eyes that could penetrate lead and a demeanour that would be more at home on the parade ground, she literally had the audience rolling around in delirium."
... *literally* rolling around in delirium? I'd be concerned if I were the director or actress in question. O_O
Tragically, it was actually quite a nice review. But I do so love it when people misuse the word "literally". Makes for some WONDERFUL mental images. XD
"This play made me happy. I was happy when it ended."
I'd rather see Les Miz School Edition performed by a subpar children's theatre program.
