HOW TO MARRY A MILLIONAIRE, but NOT as a '50s period piece. I'd want this brought up-to-date, with the basic premise of the story intact. And with a band-new-score.
RUGGLES OF RED GAP - Yes, I know there was a bright Styne TV version (which deserves another look-see) but it's a good enough story to merit another musical.
Sheri Renee Scott and Gina Gershon ARE....."Showgirls"!!!! I picture a "Lakme"-like "Puppy Chow Duet" as the Eleven O'Clock Number

Newsies would be a great stage show...I remember when I went through that phase of my life when I watched that movie everyday....yes yes I know...but I love Christian Bale!!!
I liked Pincess Diaries and A Walk To Remember, but I don't know if I could picture either one as a musical. A Walk To Remember would make a great play though. :) I should add that one to the list of movies that make me cry.

Maybe some of the Audrey Hepburn movies -- Breakfast at Tiffany's, Roman Holiday, Sabrina
Some of the period or historical dramas - look at how Les Miserables and Phantom turned out to be.
I wonder why the stage musical version of the movie Sommersby was never staged in London ( called MARTIN GUERRE at the West End)... I liked it well enough.
I too wish Newsies would be brought to Broadway. It is going to be released here in a few years from MTI for high school and Communtiy theatre, but its just not the same as what Broadway could do with it.
My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...
Hey Jo, Beakfast at Tiffany's was attempted on Broadway. It was in 1966 and starred Mary Tyler Moore and Richard Chamberlain...it closed in previews. There are plans to bring a revised additiong of it back this summer.

"Fast Times At Ridgemont High" might make a good musical...but only if Ben Folds did the music.
Anybody who doesn't know Ben Folds needs to get "Rockin' The Suburbs" and tell me this man shouldn't be writing music for the theatre.
By the way, I remember hearing that Tony Kushner was doing a musical of "Don Juan De Marco"...but that was years ago, does anyone know what happend?

Arsenic and Old Lace. I think it just screams MUSICAL. Think of the numbers that could be created. A duet or two by the two crazy aunts ("Lonely Gentlemen Callers" or "Elderberry Wine"), Mortimer trying to figure out where the body came from (and why it keeps moving around), Uncle Teddy singing about the Panama Canal and burying the "Yellow Fever" victims, a wonderful ensemble number or two...Jonathon and his plastic surgeon doing a duet...
I think Andrea Martin would be fabulous as one of the aunts...Carol Burnett, too? John Lithgow as Jonathon???? I'd love to see Nathan Lane as Mortimer handling all of the insanity...but for a younger look my heart belongs to Patrick Wilson (sigh)...but I'd see him in just about anything (sigh.)
Can't think of anyone right now for Uncle Teddy but it'd be a great part.
My two cents!
Where are we going, and why am I in this handbasket?
i think nightmare before christmas would be a great musical if julie taymore did it! that would be awesome.
"Chicago is it's own incredible theater town right there smack down in the middle of the heartland. What a great city! I can see why Oprah likes to live there!" - Dee Hoty :-D
The musical version of "The Wedding Banquet" opened last fall here in Seattle. I didn't see it, but it got only so-so reviews.
