Eris, don't worry about what anyone else has to say, or any controversies--If you liked Tale in Sarasota, why should you not get to see it in Bway, in all its splendor...?! Stand by what YOU believe, not others. Just think of the people who might not like "you";should what they think about you prevent others from getting to know you? Or should we just take the word of those who dislike you and lose you? :[
not on the list, but my under the radar pick is the new Shanley/Kreiger musical at MTC, Romantic Poetry.
I feel that the anticipation for the mega-shows we all know about leads to unfulfilled expectations, I'm curious what next season's passing strange or spelling bee will be.
The one show everyone on Broadway is waiting to see: Twyla Tharp presents: Big Bottom - The Spinal Tap Jukebox musical!
9 to 5. Dolly Parton writing music & lyrics + Joe Mantello directing + that great cast pushes 9 to 5 to the top of my list. I was planning a trip to L.A. sometime this year and decided on mid October to catch the out of town tryout. Single seats for the L.A. preview are on sale June 3rd. Hopefully decent seats will be available.
Billy Elliot. I bought the London cast recording years ago and never listened to it. I'm not sure why. I did hear two songs from Billy Elliot on digital cable Broadway music channel that sounded great. I have tickets for late November. I'm glad the producers released center orchestra seats at standard orchestra prices. Hopefully this trend will continue on Broadway.
Merrily We Roll Along. It's in my top ten favorite musicals. Hopefully it will equal or better Roundabout's productions Assassins, The Apple Tree, 110 In the Shade.
BILLY ELLIOT PAL JOEY THE MARRIAGE OF BETTE AND BOO THIRTEEN
And, hopefully, the visit of THE VISIT to Broadway.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
~ Muhammad Ali
Except that the play itself has nothing to do with Harry Potter. That would be one of the cast members. Dismissing a play or a production on the basis that one cast member is popular for something completely unrelated is not only immature, but totally illogical.
I'm actually looking most forward to Equus simply for the mostly rave reviews it received in London. It's one of my favorite plays having seen an electrifying production in Houston many years ago.
I would also love the opportunity to see a quality production of On the Town as it is seldom performed.
And having seen Billy Elliot a couple of months ago in London, I'm excited for all those who will have the opportunity to see it for the first time on Broadway. Before I saw the show, I heard the cast recroding and found it somewhat interesting, but it failed to get me interested in seeing the show. I am so glad I did. I completely get the hype and now I can hardly get through the CD without getting choked up. Prepare yourselves for a huge smash hit, folks. This is one of the best British musicals ever written and is very nearly perfect.
"What can you expect from a bunch of seitan worshippers?" - Reginald Tresilian
If they do a good job with it - and that's a big IF, I really want to see Shrek
Madame Morrible: "So you take the chicken, now it must be a white chicken. The corpse can be any color. And that is the spell for lost luggage!" - The Yellow Brick Road Not Taken
i cant wait for title of show (never got to see it off bway!), pal joey, billy elliott and shrek. also will def be seeing Equus, but have never read it
I was lost 'til I heard the drums, then I found my way
And I am soooooo curious as to how Daniel and EQUUS will do here on Broadway...
