Or you know...they couldn't get anyone.
This announcement is quite hilarious, considering the names being floated around.

I always love the speculation game, it's always the same few names, regardless of the role or the production.
That said, I'm thrilled. An unexpected but exciting choice.

Considering Mendoza is already apart of the Moulin Rouge family and has worked with Timber’s in the past, this casting makes perfect sense. One of my suggestions earlier was TV Carpio, who ended up replacing her in Spider-Man. I can still see her ending up in the role in one of the productions coming up.
Also, looks like there’s some turnover in the ensemble. Notably, Paloma Garcia-Lee and Max Clayton are not returning.

She looks great! Can't wait for this... hopefully Tveit can stir up some more chemistry with her.
As for the ensemble, I'm so glad to see this one is getting lots of fresh legs. In addition to Ardolino not returning (she was cast in Hamilton), Max Clayton, Paloma Garcia-Lee, Morgan Marcell, Brandt Martinez, Jodi McFadden, Kevyn Morrow, Caleb Marshall, Justin Prescott, Yurel Echezarreta, and Kevin Curtis have all departed the production.
I have also noticed that the show has a new music director/conductor: Julie McBride (who you may remember from SpongeBob), replacing Cian McCarthy. This is according to the official MR website.

Pretty sure he’s involved with Music Man in some way.

I'm surprised to see how many people in the ensemble aren't returning. A few of them have been involved since the labs so pre-2018.
I remember he was Hugh's stand-in for some Music Man rehearsals and he was previously in Hello, Dolly so I wouldn't be surprised if he's committed to that show already.
She's Australian? They couldn't give the part to an American actor? I don't want to be all "They're takin' our jerbs!" but...
Strange that so many ensemble members have left. Makes you wonder if some of that is tied to the backstage culture of the show especially in light of Olivo's departure.

With that comment, you have told me everything I need to know or want to know about you.

With that logic, London wouldn’t have the pleasure of enjoying Sutton Foster in Anything Goes right now , and all of the other actors who get to work elsewhere in theatre would have to stay in their own countries.
What a horrible loss that would be for audiences everywhere.
I think she looks incredible and her casting has made me want to see the show again. I never bought Olivio in the role and I have a feeling Mendoza will really deliver.
There was also ‘controversy’ about an American actor playing the leading player in Pippin in Australia (though I am sympathetic that it was probably the best and easiest option). While in principle I agree you want to give opportunities for local talent it’s pretty give/take about swapping Americans around the world (well, I’d say America usually is on the winning side).
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
