I don't think she would ever do it, but I wouldn't be surprised if they at least asked Meryl Streep to play Madame Morrible.
Also I would take Lea Michele over Ariana Grande for Elphaba, any day of the week.

Excuse me but JJ Abrams I don't picture. And Meryl Streep as Morrible sounds good. But I would also want Bette Milder, Bernadette Peters, Emma Thompson, Helena Boheme Cater or Angela Lansbury

Bette sounds good though I don't think she would do it.

So you think the supposed London run conflicts with the unannounced movie production?

Not if they still want this thing to come out in December 2019. (See Star Wars Episode IX talk above.)

WICKED is slated for release on the same day as STAR WARS, although it could be counter-programming ( StarWars will likely attract a massive number of fanboys and those who like action movies...while Wicked will likely appeal to the female and musicals demos). It seems that in the last few years, it has been a common film distribution practice to release movie musicals around Christmastime or in December.

Major exceptions are BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ( March, which contended in the same month as LOGAN, an XMen/Wolverine movie and GET OUT, a thriller - both highly rated at Rotten Tomatoes) and MAMMA MIA ( which had a summer release, maybe because of the theme),
Even if release dates are officially announced especially by the major studios, that is not cast in stone -- some can be reset a year later ( such as Greatest Showman which was moved exactly 12 months later) depending on many factors.
I'm not sure what world you're living in if you think Star Wars doesn't appeal to girls nowadays.
Edited to add a general question: Why was the thread's title changed to "JJ Abrams Wicked"?

I didn't rule out female fans of SW, but the long queues for STAR WARS will likely be predominantly male, and of course female fans. I was simply speculating that the scheduling on the same date with that movie juggernaut is to offer some type of counterprogramming, as musicals will likely attract more female fans as well as theatre fans.

Time will tell
In a NYT piece called Confirm or Deny, Mantello said the folowing:
"Nobody should make “Wicked” into a movie while it’s still selling out on Broadway and in road shows.
Confirm."
Not that the director of the show has any say on when the movie should be made/released.

Not that we're that well served with it, but if they waited for Phantom to be on its way out before making the movie there would still be no movie. I think Wicked has stood the test of time and probably won't notice the release of the movie.

Apparently word is Stephen Schwartz talked a bit about the film at some convention this weekend, he may have said it was in pre production and they were casting soon according to twitter.

JJ is now delving into musicals https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/amp/live-feed/sara-bareilles-jj-abrams-musical-dramedy-gets-apple-series-pickup-1117501?__twitter_impression=true
I mean with the most recent Star Wars movie not doing too well at the box office perhaps they’ll take a risk in opening alongside the next one.
Cats just announced a December 20, 2019 release date for its film adaptation. Not sure if that spells well for this thing being 100% on track...
