The Obi-Wan thing is just a rumor right now; no one associated with Disney or Lucasfilm has officially announced it, so it isn't an established fact at this point in time.
Wish Daldry had done Frozen.

Uhhhh... I didn't say anything about promoting. I'm not talking about trailers, commercials, or posters. I'm talking about making the film itself. I'm quite aware of what this type of film's normal promotional trajectory is. I could care less if Wicked released a trailer only 3 months in advance of the film - I'm just stating that big films with complicated filming schedules, FX challenges (green-screen and so forth), and pre-recorded sound requirements typically get rolling about 2 years in advance of the release date, but word regarding Wicked has been crickets lately (and yes, Universal did set an official release date of December 20, 2019)
"
One major issue with the Christmas 2019 release date for Wicked is the fact that it would be in direct competition with Frozen 2 and Wonder Woman 2, both due in November 2019. Frozen 2 is an especially powerful rival, due to the similarities between the original Frozen and Wicked. Although we now recognise there is room for both on Broadway, Frozen 2 is further along in production (the leads have recorded dialogue and a few new songs have been written) and it has an advantage because it’s more family friendly and Frozen is a better-known property than Wicked. Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised if Universal want to avoid a battle with Frozen 2 which could hurt its box office...

I think this project died.
Stephen Schwartz is set to take part in this year's OZ-Stravaganza/Wizard of Oz festival in Chittenango, where he is supposedly going to discuss the upcoming film.

Also don't forget that Wicked is currently scheduled to open the same weekend as Star Wars Episode 9.

My intent when I said Frozen was "better known" was not to dismiss Wicked. It's just that films find it easier to gain an audience, as you have more opportunities to watch them as often as you like. Wicked is one of the biggest stage musicals of the new millennium, but Frozen is one of the biggest film musicals, and film musicals will always be more prominent...
Frozen's arrival on Broadway hasn't done too much damage to Wicked (although the former is earning slightly more at the moment) but the world of film is considerably different and more competitive. As an animated film, Frozen 2 has a considerable head start, so Wicked will need to start filming quickly in order to compete with it. In addition, Frozen 2 has the advantage of telling a new story...
I would rather see the best possible version of Wicked in December 2020 than a version rushed to cinemas to meet the December 2019 release date...

There's no reason to get excited about a movie in advance. Once you know it is coming out on a specific date, just go and see it. Done."
You seem fun

The rumored Obi-Wan film isn't Episode IX, though. It's a separate spin-off, if they're actually making it.
Episode 9 is scheduled for December 20, 2019. It was pushed back from a May release after JJ Abrams took the reins.
And it's pretty obvious that Wicked, right now, is in development hell.
Yeah, I don't think Wicked will be ready in time for December 2019. Episode IX, which indeed is scheduled to be released the same weekend, starts filming in July. Meanwhile, Wicked is far behind in that it doesn't seem to have a finished script, nor does it have a cast, production crew, set filming locations, etc. Either this thing is going to be shelved again, or they're going to have to delay it.

There's plenty of time for this movie to be ready before Dec 2019. Mamma Mia 2 was announced roughly one year before the release date, with cast still signing deals throughout last year. Wicked have less complicated dance sequences and we don't really know how much of CGI will be involved. If they finish filming by Dec 2018, they have more time for CGI than say, Avengers: Infinity War, which was a bit heavy on the CGI. Just because they aren't announcing every single step they're taking on the production doesn't mean they're not doing anything.

Wow, these are both bad."
Isn’t Nicole Scherzinget in talks/rumored?
Her voice is amazing. I wouldn’t be mad at that.
check her out singing Don’t Cry For Me Argentina at the Andrew Lloyd tribute. I was speechless

I seem to recall that the rumor about her being in the running for the role appeared in the Daily Mail, a British tabloid, that it reeked of a press agent trying to drum up publicity, and that no talks of any substance had actually taken place.

Thats right I forgot Nicole is in her early 40s.
they might as well just cast an unknown.
there was Ariana grande rumors at one point for the movie/broadway but I CANNOT see her as elphaba.
I wouldn’t be too upset if Lea Michele was cast, just cause of the Idina resemblance and she can belt. But I know everyone on this board unadulteratedly loathes her. :-p
