I know, seriously. I have some list for annoying broadway songs tho, as I'm sure everyone else does!
You didn't offend me, pop. I just think it is impossible to really choose a "worst Broadway song ever" without having a personal opinion behind it. I mean, is someone really gonna look at a song they love and say "well you know, as an objective listener...this song really is the worst Broadway song ever?" I just think it's a question that needs more guidelines.

"Heaven Help The Sailors on a Night Like This" from "Illya Darling"
And while I like the melody, the lyrics of "Dear World" are abysmal.

I don't know if this one has been mentioned because I haven't read the entire thread:
"This Was a Real Nice Clambake" from CAROUSEL drives me insane.
If High School Musical goes to broadway than this list is going to get a whole lot bigger.
Well I don't like the Dictator musical chair song from Evita but maybe that's just me.
I don't remember the name of the song, but the Money song in Wedding Singer...eek
How can any of you not mention the NUMBER ONE worst song...The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

I don't think that a song that enchanted millions of people worldwide due to many factors (a little girl singing it in a show that proved to be a blockbuster, inspirational, etc.) could be the worst song EVER from a Broadway show. The musicality of it is excellent. Very well crafted. It has moved and inspired so many people over the years.
Maybe I'm giving humanity too much credit, after all, we're living in a country who (sort of mostly) voted for George W. Bush TWICE. But a lousy song probably wouldn't have captivated so many people. It's still, obviously, a very popular show in the community and school theater circuits, mostly due to that song.
Granted, I could certainly go through the rest of my life without hearing it ever again and be perfectly happy, but the worst song EVER? Annoying to some, maybe, but musically, not even close to being the worst.
IMHO, of course.
a bunch of high fidelity songs (though a couple are actually not bad)
also anything from Seussical.
i like joseph! But maybe its just because it was the most fun play to be in so it has sentimental value or something.
"I love how the Wicked fans dis "Sentimental Man" and it's like one of the only songs in the show that even tries to develop a character further by giving us a little more information about what's going on inside him. Okay, maybe that's giving Schwartzy a little too much credit, but still... "
maybe so but it would be much more effective if he SHOWED that he was sentimental instead of coming out and saying "hi, i'm sentimental" does that make any sense?
"I second all of these:
"Something Bad" - Wicked
"Send in the Clowns" - A Little Night Music
"Love From A Heart of Gold" - How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying
"I Should Tell You" - RENT"
I dont like "something bad" from wicked... come to think of it a lot of wicked songs really annoy me. As for "I should tell you" I don't dislike it when I see it on stage, but when I'm just listening to music outside of the theatre, i really can not stand that song either.
"I hate these ****ing threads."
That's nice, then don't post on them.
"Bride's Lament - Drowsy"
But it's supposed to be bad, that's the whole point.
Hey uh Mealzzz - i'll post wherever I want. Thanks though.
And also - I love how this thread has become another way to denounce an entire show, not just one song.
Threads like these are stupid because they are nothing but a sounding board for people to expurgate their personal hatred for a show. So then the people reading it either a)are dismayed to see that one of their favorite songs might be regaurded as the worst b-way song ever, b) not paying attention to what anyone else says because they just want to say their piece, or c) at best..they also see a song they just hate as well, and..are able to agree.
Whatever..carry-on..i just don't see the point.

"The Ballad of Mack the Knife"
It seems to come up on Seth's Big Fat Broadway way too much.

- I have to disagree with you. The whole point of the Wizards charecter is that he is a truly evil man, disguising as a compassionate human being (sound familer?) He can't PROVE that he's sentimantal, because he's not. He has to say it to make people believe he is, so they will be so convinced that he is good, so he can continue his evil deeds with Morrible without suspicion.

I hear "I Should Tell You" a lot for songs that people don't like, but I'm suprised it would be nominated for worst song ever.
"This Was a Real Nice Clambake"
just hearing that title makes me chuckle
The Other Woman - Annie Warbuck
Those little girls singing about losing their man.. sounds incestous.

I'm going way back here. There was a song that opened ACT 2 of Skyscraper starring Julie Harris called Delicatessan that stunk worse than a moldy Pastrami sandwich. Almost every song from Man In The Moon. For a non-Broadway show song I pick Space is So Startling (there's Jupiter & there's Mars) from a London cast album from the 60's. I haven't listened to that album in over 30 years & I still can't get that horrible title song out of my head.Shipoopi is a masterpiece of melody & poetry compared to it.
