Young Frankenstein is playing in La Mirada in the fall. Has anyone seen the revised version because I’m thinking of buying tickets.
I love that show, I think you should.
I saw the national tour years ago. It's a lot of fun (and I'm not even a fan of Mel Brooks humor!).
The revised version drops the original opening number “The Happiest Town in Town” and just opens with “The Brain.” There’s also one or two new songs mainly “It Could Work” replacing “Join the Family Business,” but beyond that it’s largely the same show. There is a West End cast album you could listen to for reference. La Mirada generally does quality work so there’s no reason not to recommend it. Plus Sally Struthers!

It didn't recoup it's $16 million budget. The reviews were mixed, with the general consensus being that it wasn't nearly as good as The Producers.
Personally, I think it has some of Mel Brooks' best songs, and the revised version from the West End is a lot tighter and would better in a scaled back production.

I personally loved it. The cast was insanely fantastic as were the special effects and set design. Perfectly captured Mel Brooks’ aesthetic so fans of his work weren’t slighted one bit. It was a tough act to try to match the explosive success of THE PRODUCERS but as a musical adaptation, I feel it succeeded.

It wasn't but I thought it was fantastic and better than the Producers. Most reviews essentially compared everything to the Producers. Two different movies and shows and Young Frankenstein is better written.
It was fun, but I think the issue was the musical took all the jokes and made them into songs, which didn't quite work. None of the songs really progressed the plot. It would just be joke. song. joke. song.
But it was still fun.

Saw the West End production with the revisions and thought it was great - it's a very underrated musical in my opinion and is just a great night of laughs and fun songs. Tons of puns, gags, and Brooks sense of humor. Puttin' on the Ritz is a great show stopper -

I saw it on Broadway with the original Broadway cast. I thought it was so much fun and loved the music. I have to say the audience laughed so much but the highlight was the beginning of “Putting on the Ritz”. People went crazy with the intro, the first line and The Monster “singing”. I would go back and see it again if I could .
