Well, Tavern on the Green is pretty much a definite stop on our trip... I live in Memphis, TN (whoever was asking...), but I am moving to New York very soon.
So, I am thinking about going to Times Square Deli before LEGALLY BLONDE. Then after the show, we'll walk around Times Square, look around, maybe eat at a vendor or something or maybe eat at a diner or something... Sound good?
I've never had a problem with Ellen's servce. If anything, I am doubly impressed with the fact that the waiters can sing and perform, while waiting tables and ringing up receipts the whole time! I would totally lose my place.
If the service is a little slow, it's just more time to enjoy the singing. I take as long as I possibly can every time I go. But that's me.
So, is Ellen's near MARY POPPINS (at the New Amsterdam)?
Oh, also: 46th street between 8th and 9th Avenues (right off of Times Square) is Restaurant Row. It is lined with restaurants of all genres and price ranges, and almost all of them feature a pre-theater prix fixe menu. If you're not sure where to eat before your show, just wander that block and you'll find something.
I won't stop you from eating at Tavern, but you'll be disappointed. don't say I didn't warn you.
I won't...
I think I will replace BUBBA GUMP'S with ELLEN'S STARDUST DINER for before POPPINS. Looks pretty tasty!

Depends on your definition of "near." They are at opposite ends of Times Square, eight blocks apart. That's less than half a mile, so it's definitely walkable. But it's not across the street.
Ellen's is VERY busy before shows, so I would actually suggest going for a late dinner or dessert after your show. It is open late and you'll have lots of time to dawdle and listen to the music.
The Brooklyn Diner at 57th and 7th Avenue or the new location at 43rd and Broadway is a MUST stop for lunch, dinner, or supper after a show! This is a wonderful, New York place!
So, is the new location near Madame Toussaud's?
The deli on 43rd and Broadway is one and a half blocks from Madame Tussaud's, which is on 42nd between 7th and 8th.
So, it's near both the wax museum and LEGALLY BLONDE?

Last summer I dragged my dad to NYC for about a week. We had a great time and had some big events planned that he wanted to see, the Empire State, the Statue of Liberty, and the Natural History Museum. We had Broadway shows that I wanted to see, but when it came to food we just looked around when we were hungry and found great places. My suggestion is to relax and trust the city. Our motto was 'one more block' and we were never disappointed. Yes, we had more time to spend then it looks like you will and I'm sure you just want to have a good time, but you're going to love it so much. Allow some flexibility in your schedule to really take in the city. You're going to have an awesome time!!
Ok dude, seriously- yes, 43rd and Broadway is near the wax museum (42nd btwn 7th/8th) and also near the palace theatre (47th and 7th). Times Square is where Broadway and 7th Avenue cross each other, and 8th Ave is one block to the west of them.
You're coming in *August*...you might want to take a breath and just make sure that all these restaurants that you're planning on eating at are still open then- as in the case of the no longer there Ollie's on 44th Street.

Thank you, everyone.
Again, what's your definition of "near"? Everything in Times Square is "near" each other, in that the whole thing spans about half a mile.
MADAME TUSSAUD'S: 42nd, between 7th and 8th
MARY POPPINS: 42nd, between 7th and 8th, practically next door
DELI: 43nd and Broadway, a block and a half away
LEGALLY BLONDE: 47th and Broadway, 5 blocks away, a quarter of mile.
To find out how far anything is from anything else in Manhattan, subtract the streets and avenues from each other. That will give you the number of blocks.
Broadway runs diagonally, so that's a little confusing, but it's between 8th and 7th above 46th and between 7th and 6th below 46th.
After you subtract, just remember that 20 blocks is approximately one mile. And the streets are straight lines, so it's not a strenuous walk.
Legally Blond is at The Palace: 47th and Broadway.
Oh. I never remember exactly what street it is on, I just walk down Broadway until I hit it.
I should have checked, though. Thanks!
So, I think I have decided on just going to a street vendor (my mom wants a hot dog) in Times Square after Madame Toussaud's and before LEGALLY BLONDE. Then, after BLONDE (say about 4:45), We'll walk to Ellen's Stardust Diner for an early dinner before going to MARY POPPINS.
Sound do-able?

If doing the wax museum get AAA discounted tix, or discounted tix from the folks on the sidewalk in TS, or at the TS tourist info booth (I think they might have them there)- don't pay full price for the wax museum.
The one time I walked into the lobby of the wax museum:
We looked up at the price schedule, decided it was too expensive even with AAA, and started to walk out. We were stopped at the door by a "Watcher" and offered a bigger discount. We said the price was still too steep and we couldn't/wouldn't spend even that. Finally, he offered some really deep discount (I think he said it was reserved for the Armed Forces, so we told him we had a relative who had served in World War II).
p.s. Worth the price of (discounted) admission.
Okay. I hate to be stupid and annoying, but...
So, if LEGALLY BLONDE is on 47th, and Ellen's is on 51st, we'd be backtracking (going the opposite way) before heading to POPPINS on 42nd?
Yes. But it's just a couple blocks.
Okay. And you think it could happen with the time restraints?

Hot dog ? I would go for falafel. But otherwise it seems doable.
Good, siny. Well, just some vendor. We'll decide when we get there.

And American...backtracking a few blocks is really not a big deal in Times Square. As long as you start eating between 11:30 and 12 noon you'll have plenty of time to eat, take your time, and walk back to the theatre. It's only 5-10 minutes depending on your NY pedestrian experience.
I think I will replace BUBBA GUMP'S with ELLEN'S STARDUST DINER for before POPPINS. Looks pretty tasty!
This is somewhat bizare, but I did just that back in November, and I was seeing Mary Poppins. Spooky!
