Jersey Boys is 51% a new score? News to me.
eta: Nevermind, I get it.
Jersey boys is the winner. hands down.
SWEENEY should be the winner, hands down.
But it will probably go to that rehash JB.
I mean SPAMALOT beat A LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA.
as is always the case, the they will not vote for the deserving artistic achievement, they will vote for the songs they are familiar with.
They vote for whichever show is the "biggest."
JERSEY BOYS will win, hands down.
That sucks.
Was there a cut-off date?
Was Grey Gardens in the running?

Nah, I think the Jersey Boys cast album is a well produced album. If it wins, I wouldn't be sad or surprised.

It'll go to the Pajama Game. Harry Connick, Jr. is waaay more contemporary than The Four Seasons. I don't believe the Grammy's are nostalgic for the 60s.
they were when Smokey Joe's won.
CPD, you really think SWEENEY's recording is the best? I think the recording is the weakest. The music may be best, but the recording doesn't come off very well. I'm guessing the award will go to JERSEY BOYS or THE COLOR PURPLE.

JERSEY BOYS will most likely win, I think
I would like SWEENEY TODD or COLOR PURPLE too, but I doubt either of them would win
Jersey Boys should win
Jersey Boys wins for sure!
Jersey Boys definitely!
Well i like Art not schlock.
I bet the JB'S cd is produced quite well
But i would sure rather listen to a Four Seasons Album anyday.
Well the award is for Best Album, not Best Score.

Well then, what's the problem with Jersey Boys? It is art. And as for Schlock...that's what I thought "The Drowsy Chaperone" 's score was.
BTW, The Drowsy Chaperone's score is not what made it good.
I laughed all through Chaperone...but I hated the score.
And if you mean Sweeney, again, the beauty of Sweeney was not this version of that score.
The real art here, in terms of a recorded album was what they did with the 4 Seasons songs. It's not like Beatlemania, it's its own thing. And I think John Lloyd Young and company sound amazing. Nothing beats the show itself, and JLY sounds better now than when he recorded it...
It is also one of the most addictive OCRs...and Beggin sounds better than the original (no disrespect for Frankie Valli)
ART is different things to different people, that what makes it interesting.
Recreating a 60's sound with modern technology may be your idea of ART, it's not mine.
That's all I mean.
And the original 4 Seasons were the Bomb, the new guys are very talented indeed but they are imitating an existing sound.
Just like Beatlemania, by the way.
I know JB'S will probably win anyway.
Darn.
None of the Four Seasons has won a Grammy. Since this is an award to the producer, they're definitely going to give it to Jersey Boys because Bob Gaudio produced it. It may not be "schlock" and it may not be "art," but neither of those matters when it comes to these things anyway.

JERSEY BOYS will win simply because it's THE hot show. It what all the Grammy voters are hearing about, and it's the show that they all want to see (if they are in the position to see a show.) They will not even listen to the recordings. They will vote for JERSEY BOYS because the Four Seasons are icons and because it's the only musical any of them actually know anything about.
I am willing to bet anything on the fact that JERSEY BOYS will win.

Not only is JB the biggest show of that bunch, its the best cast recording of it. It will, and should, win.
THE DROWSEY CHAPERONE is every bit as good and a lot more clever.
I would like to see The Color Purple win. A year after seeing it and I listen to it more than most of OBCR CD's I own.
Of all the shows nominated, IMHO, "The Color Purple" is the least deserving.
