I know that this is a rumour but the other day this source who is quite adamant (you’ll see my original post on the palace construction update from the other day) on the rumour and his knowledge of the situation. But apparently there is a plan in the late stages to have Barbra reopen the Palace in 2024 with a string of concerts (something like four a week for 12 weeks… around 50 in total) which would serve as a “adieu” to her live concerts in the place that started her career -Broadway. Apparently it’s a retrospective evening where she will share stories (as a companion to her memoir) from throughout her over 60 year career.
I know that there was an article from 2017 where her manager had wanted her to reopen the palace.
But I’m wondering if anyone else has heard this. (One would have thought it would have been announced in tandem with her memoir release. And in time for Christmas. I’d imagine the tickets for such a small run would make it the event of century for tickets. And yet I love the full circle of it
I shudder to think how much tickets to this might cost. Six digits, probably.
she is going to be on Howard Stern next week... I am wondering what she is promoting

Standing room for $1,000.

Hmm this would be an EVENT. That said, I've heard it's an A-List pop star re-opening The Palace from a very reliable source.

I was hoping a new original musical would open the theatre. Silly me,

Lady Gaga?
S. Oracle has heard Adele. If they're looking to reopen in the spring, a 4-week run could be squeezed in nicely between March 30 and May 17 when she's off from her Vegas residency, or else after June 15, when it ends, but, if it's true, that 6-week gap in April/May seems awfully convenient.
I'd rather see Barbra, but Adele would be a huge get.
If Adele is bringing her Vegas show to Broadway for a brief engagement, I will GLADY max out all my credit cards and take out a small loan for a ticket!
Gaga would make more sense. She’s more theatrical in the same vein as Judy or Liza. If Adele is just gonna reproduce her Vegas show at the Palace, that sounds like a snooze. She’s sings nice but she’s not an entertainer.

Gaga would be my guess. She could fulfill her EGOT status if she were awarded a special Tony and recorded one of the performances for a TV special.

I'm not an awards expert but I don't think special Tonys count.
One has to win all 4 awards in competition, I think.

Yes, Barbra along with Liza Minnelli, James Earl Jomes, Quincy Jones and Harry Belafonte, who are all also EGOT winners with at least one of their awards being earned without competition.
Jennifer Hudson is the most recent example, unless we're considering her producing Tony as competitive.

Oy............the Barbra "playing The Palace, and/or Carnegie Hall" rumors, have been around for well over 2 decades now. Yes, Barbra's Manager Marty Erlichman said that he would love it if Barbra played The Palace. Just like he'd like her to play Carnegie Hall, and tour all over the world. Doesn't mean it's going to happen.
We'll revisit this thread in a year and get a big laugh out of it - because it never happened.

2 separate lists- Official EGOT winners and those with an asterisk for non competitive wins

There's no such thing as "official" EGOT status. It's not actually a real thing.

Barbra's gonna be on Colbert November 13, would be a good opportunity to announce if it's true
The main issue, whether it's Barbra, Gaga or Adele, is that ticket prices are going to be insane. All three could easily fill a 10k seat theater for 12 weeks. But the Palace won't even hold 2,000.

Yes, and...? That isn't going to stop it from happening nor would it keep them from selling out and making a bucket of money too.
When is the renovation supposed to be complete? Excited to revisit The Palace after this behemoth of an undertaking. Rumor I heard was Gaga as well but any of the 3 would be amazing.
