hee hee, ck, "automagically."

but to the point. we do not acknowledge the people who make their way into a thread just to try to argue against it without making sense (trolls in blog-speak). we let them have their say, ck, and take the higher ground without directly acknowledging those whose babbling would challenge the accepted wisdom that tsatg is worth less than a cup of coffee with sour milk.

and for heaven's sake, man, get with the program, this show is tsatg (the sin at the gershwin).

I disagree.

RAGTIME, imho, is the best musical ever written. I will jabber on and on about how amazing it is. I doubt anyone will not like it because of that.

I just don't think it's plausible to not like a show because someone keeps talking about it... that is, unless the person you're talking to doesn't have a grasp on their own opinion.

Ckeaton, hon, when would I ever doubt your sarcasm?

And why the hell did you doubt mine!?

Um, I would hate it if every other thread was about Ragtime, tickets for Ragtime, who was out of the show for Ragtime, etc.

Stokes won't be going on as Coalhouse tonight. I can tell you that. It's a damn shame.

and could you beleive that stokes actually slapped her the other night while she was in her full body cast??? my ex lover is on the crew for that show and she was hanging upside above that scene and clearly saw stokes' hand contact audra's face and watched her cheek wobble. that's some f'd up stuff, man.

Hmm, I'll be serious.
I don't dislike Wicked because of its fans. I dislike a lot of Wicked fans because they're very similar to Sondheim-firsters (those people to whom any other show pales in comparison with any Sondheim show. Sorry, but he has his atrocities as well, even if Sweeney Todd is my favorite musical). Wicked I dislike because it is simply not a good show. The lyrics tend to be clever on occasion, true, but the music sounds like a generically bad teeny-bopper pop album drawn from the B sides of a litany of one-hit wonder singles.
There's not a Stephen Schwartz score I prefer less than Wicked's, including The Prince of Egypt (which is not that great either). He wrote wonderfully fun and catchy tunes for Godspell, his score to the Baker's Wife ranks with some of the all-time best scores (IMHO), Children of Eden is SURPRISINGLY effective in the theatre (and not a bad listen at home on CD either)...but Wicked is just not good. The Tony presentation clued me into that once more.
The only thing it has going for it is a beautiful set (Eugene Lee has done Sondheim shows too!) and two standout performers, even if they are kind of one-note.
Well, it also has people signing onto Broadwayworld.com in droves to tout the wonders of Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, and to ponder their dietary habits or whether or not they have lucky underwear or whatnot.
For the record, my bet is that they do.

WICKEDINDIN..., I know you seem to be a big fan of Wicked, I'm pretty indifferent one way or another, but a good couple suggestions, please take your responses out of caps lock, secondly, start defendig the show in a more credible manner, this seems to be a pretty intelligent board, and I'm sure a logical response is going to work much better than "SHUT UP SHUT UP SHUT UP"... just some advice to calm down a little bit, because you are really only building up more animosity toward the show on this site. But if its a joke to get people against the show, you're doing one heck of a job...

You, you are the worst thing to happen to musical theater since Andrew Lloyd Webber... and you I just don't like you.

The responses and threads being started seem to be getting dumber and dumber. I theorize that the Wicked minions are getting dumber and dumber along with their posts. If we just hole ourselves up in here and go talk in the chat where the Wicked minions can't find us, (I theorize they have become too dumb to find anything besides the main board.) fairly soon they will lose so much cognitive ability that they will not know how to post anymore. When that time comes, our deliverance will be at hand!!!!

"I get the feeling that the talent of the ensemble is a matter of taste and therefore subject to variation."

I think the person who said that the Wicked ensemble is the worst on Broadway needs better taste than that. No offense, but how can they ALL be bad? They're on Broadway, aren't they?

I believe the Wicked obsession has caused some of the more impressionable ones serious psychological harm. They are hangin' on the edge of deranged.......

Perhaps an intervention is in order. Where are their parents? Friends? Extended family? The family religious advisor?

"no offense, but how can they all be bad? they're on broadway, aren't they?"

which in and of itself means nothing. perhaps the casting director felt like playing a really mean joke on joe mantello. perhaps joe mantello felt like playing a particularly mean joke on the broadway community. the fact that someone gets cast is no indication of their talent per se. they could have all blown david stone.
