Hmm, how can I compare? I used to think I liked showtunes. Currently in my changer: Avenue Q Urinetown Barbara Cook at Carnegie (from the 70s) Amanda Green's Put a Little Love in Your Mouth (if you don't know her work, make yourself known to it! Great, funny stuff!) John Mayer (just to be different) A really bad demo CD I recorded for a show that will NEVER, ever be produced.
Wow! I read this whole thread! ... and didn't notice the dates until I was very confused about WICKED -- since I thought it WAS out! LOL
Okay, the CD in my player right now: SWEET CHARITY
I'd never listened to it, and I inherited it recently.
Before that I finally listened to the OBC of MAME. LOVED IT. Had to look up Jerry Lanning in IBDB. What a voice!! Before that OBC of CANDIDE. Bleck. NG. Liked BC's liner notes, though. Before that it was Maria Callas' TOSCA from the 1952 Paris production. Before that it was Cher's Greatest Hits 1962 - 1992(?) Before that it was WICKED. Not impressed. Disneyification of a bad version of a not good book. However, v. impressed with IM's voice. Before that it was ASPECTS OF LOVE. Original Cast. Before that it was Maria Callas' CARMEN.
And that's the last week. Can't do the last month, but it included ASSASSINS, CHESS, TABOO (too many times to count), The Mosquitos, Queen's Greatest Hits, and Ellen DeGeneres' TASTE THIS and Sandra Berhards WITHOUT YOU I'M NOTHING.
I think amazon.com is delivering tick ... tick ... BOOM! on Monday, along with THE LAST 5 YEARS ... I just got the DVD of TABOO, but can't watch it yet (DVD region difficulties) ...
