Rasputin's been done, I believe.
PLEASANTVILLE would be stunning.
PLEASANTVILLE......WOULD BE AWESOME
On "Monte Cristo" I would go with probably a mix of both cause I like them both
PORKY'S would make a COOL Musical
REVENGE OF THE NERDS......this would make for an AMAZING musical
I can really see ANIMAL HOUSE as a Musical too.

'Rasputin" has been done as a musical. and I hate being petty, but Boney M sang the pop song, not Abba. But the other suggestions are great. I'd like to see "Newlyweds" as a musical, ending on a sour note when Nick and Jess split at the end.

I love all kinds of musical and I have to say that most of the shows are based on SOMETHING.
But I think we could go with MA BAKER (Boney M SOng)
and maybe some other stuff would be cool. I still think The Wedding Singer sounds retarded... Sorry.

I think Watership Down would make a wonderful musical - and family friendly to boot. I thought I heard long ago that someone was going to do that, but I never heard that anything came of it. Does anybody know?
In the current popularily of Jane Austin, I think Sense and Sensibility or Pride and Prejudice would be interesting.
For movies, I think Big Fish would be interesting, and I completely agree with Finding Neverland.
There is a great book called The Other Boelyn Girl, about Anne and Mary Boelyn and their love affairs with Henry VIII, plus Anne's demise. Absolutely riveting, and would make a fabulous musical with the right composer.
Has Bonnie and Clyde been done?
Something based on the music of "Kraftwerk".
has Wuthering Heights been done?

I love the choreography in Zhang Yimou's films, like "Hero" and "House of Flying Daggers" - the Echo Game dance sequence in HOFD was especially breathtaking. It would be awesome to have a musical based on a famous person or event in Chinese history and incorporate some of the stunning fight sequences that we see in Zhang Yimou's films into it.

I think Hero would make an amazing opera. I thought so when I saw it.
Bonnie and Clyde was done this past September at NYMF.
Finding Neverland is supposedly being done with Allan Knee writing the book and Andrew Lippa doing the score. I seem to remember Jason Robert Brown being initially announced as the composer but apparently that didn't work out.

There's a studio cast recording of WH, but it's rather bland.
After all this hype about Holy Grain becoming Spamalot, it got me thinking...the Mel Brooks film History of the World Pt. 1 would make a FANTASTIC musical, especially the Inquisition scene.

How about 1984? (by George Orwell)
I don't know if I could see 1984 being a musical...a play, maybe, but I can't see any songs coming from it. Love the book, but as a musical...I'm not sure.

The question shouldn't be "why hasn't there been a musical of..." but rather "why should there be a musical of...?" In other words, why is musical treatment of a particular property necessary? How does it reconceive the work and make it something new, instead of a retread? What new insights are gleaned from the addition of lyrics and music? These are questions most of those writing in musical theatre today would do well to ask themselves.

i know this isn't supposed to be involving movies but i think they should do the sleeping beauty. they could base it on the disney movie if they want but either way, they could give arora and prince phillip sooooo much more depth than they have in the movie, and can you imagine the dragon on the stage? that would be awesome.
as for an original idea: my friend and i thought it would be interesting to make a musical about a cancellation line in front of a theater on the last weekend of a touring broadway show. it's based on when we went to try for tickets to wicked when it was in san francisco. we went on the last weekend and we finally got in. yay! :)

I was thinking of this the other day, "The Adams Family". I know its probably stupid but it COULD be funny...idk...
Well I think that a musical always needs a good romance, comedy, drama, etc. some ideas...
A comedy about the stone age and a sorta of Flinstones type thing resembling Spamalot.
MLK Jr. Type thing
From the movie Boyz n the Hood about the crime and tradjeties in South Central LA.
