I'm putting together a revue for a local theatre company of Broadway "Showstoppers". I have a few ideas already, but I wanted to get your opinions!

Posted: 10/18/04 at 10:10pmCabaret....Many Les Miz songs....I think that Big Spender is a good one, when done well. I second "Close Every Door"- it will have the hair stand up on anybody's arms. If you can find someone to do a major Wicked song, grab them. Gimme Gimme is amazing too!

Posted: 10/18/04 at 10:37pmOf all of these so called showstoppers, there is only one of them that I actually saw stop a show. It was "And I Am Telling You" from "Dreamgirls". After the song there was a standing ovation and the show had to stop for a while until the audience settled back down. Most of the songs listed in this thread are great but very few of them ever really stopped a show.

What about THE ULTIMATE show-stopper of ALL Broadway history... "Hello, Dolly!"
'Dolly' used to get so many encores when performed that in the interest of time, a limit was placed on the number of encores the song could have.

Hey, Look Me Over from WILDCAT.
Getting Married Today from COMPANY.
I love the musical score from WILDCAT. It's fun and entertaining.
Julie Andrews did a wonderful rendition of Getting Married Today in PUTTING IT TOGETHER.
