What is YOUR "Drowsy Chaperone"?

What I mean is, imagine yourself as "Man in Chair." Which musical are you in love with so that you listen to the CD over and over? Which musical cheers you up if you're feeling down, a bit blue, and manages to put a smile on your face, however cheesy others may think it is?

For me, I have a special place in my heart for Thoroughly Modern Millie. The show is fluff, but I love it to pieces. The score makes my heart soar. I'm a hopeless romantic and I love the story. "Gimme Gimme" gives me chills and I could listen to it all day long.

Or perhaps it's just a Sutton Foster thing. :)

I never get tired of Songs for a New World. I listen to that one so frequently, and it always cheers me up.

I don't do this so much anymore, but when I was a child living upstate whose only glimpse into musical theatre was to discover new cast recordings, that's literally what I would do all night long, and on the weekends.

Some of my fondest memories were laying on my bed just listening to random recordings I was able to find at some of the bad local CD stores that never seemed to carry theatre recordings.

So, with that said, my DROWSY CHAPERONE (as a child, atleast) would be CATS, first and foremost, followed by HELLO, DOLLY!, FOLLIES, MISS SAIGON, LES MISERABLES, THE SOUND OF MUSIC, and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE.

I don't really have a whole CD like that. But I have some mixes and I love listening to "Run Freedom Run" from Urinetown, that always makes me laugh.

Hm. Well when I was little I used to listen to my parent's records of ANNIE and HAIR incessantly - which probably explains a lot...

Hairspray. It was the first real Broadway show I was interested in, and in my years of knowing it, it's never gotten old. Of all the shows I've actually seen (which is very few in person), I still enjoy that the most. :)

Hmmm...tough one.

Hairspray certainly lasted the longest, but didn't have staying power. I just listened to it too much. It never left the cd player for a good 9 months though, lol.

I'm leaning towards either Nine (most recent one) or Thoroughly Modern Millie. Nine is just so beautiful. I'll never tire of those melodies. And Millie is just so fun...I couldn't count the number of times I've "air-tapped" my way through Forget About the Boy, haha.

Usually I go through periods of certain musicals...like for awhile I'll listen to songs from a select few musicals, then move on to other musicals at some other point in time. Right now it's Spamalot, All Shook Up, Sweet Charity, and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

I go thru kicks. I was on a Phantom kick for a couple years, then I rotated Lion King, Hairspray, and Avenue Q for a while, and now I'm on the down-swing of a BIG Wicked kick. I need to find a new show.

I go through phases, but the ones that have had the most staying power as cheerer-uppers are Thoroughly Modern Millie, RENT, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Les Mis. Plus anything that has Sutton Foster. Just love to hear her voice.
