I walked out of Phantom because it was all about a masked man and not a phantom, and  it had too much opera. They didn't advertise it was so much opera.

I also walked out of Wicked at intermission because the lead was good and not wicked until the very end, and it had a big dragon and clocks and it was confusing.

And also I walked out of The Lion King because it had puppets but you could see the person handling the puppets, and I know it has hakuna Matata and all those songs but I could see the people and I left.

i heard cheeseburger in paradise is the epitome of "WTF are u kidding me right now" in the show? lol

"

Oh yeah, I think there was elaborate wirework in that number, and of course they were literally eating cheeseburgers but it took place in a Cincinnati bar, so I don't think the paradise part of the lyric was quite as justified. For me the second half number that stuck in my head the most was "He Went to Paris". The characters are on a plane, having just escaped a volcano that destroyed their home, and while normally humans would be talking about that, they had already used up Buffett's one song about volcanos, so they  just moved on to singing about the pilot's backstory living in Paris because they hadn't used that song yet.

I can remember standing outside Great Comet at intermission and these 2 drunken women in their early 50's were leaving and they were going hysterical as they walking out screaming how terrible it was. They were literally stopping people in the street who were walking past and telling them not to go and see it and that it was the worst thing they'd ever seen. It was embarrassing...

Idk if this counts but I had a double header of Angels in America but walked out after MA because I was coming down with something awful and had a fever and was dizzy.

A week later I went back to see Perestroika.

I've always found the story of "Dear Evan Hansen" very convoluted and the actions of Evan make him a very murky figure to me. The climax of the story fell flat for me because by that point, I wasn't rooting for him. But I didn't walk out. I liked the songs.

I've never walked out of a show either....but I really, really wanted to walk out of Dirty Dancing. It was horrible....just horrible. However, I paid a lot of money for it, so I stuck it out.

I wish I'd walked out of Cats. It is still the worst thing I have ever seen and the first time I've ever apologised to someone for taking them to the theatre.

I was in London for work and was lucky enough to see Nicole Scherzinger as grizabella and I’ll say this- she’s the only reason I stayed.

Almost walked out of Good for Otto recently off-broadway. Looking back I wish I had, as the second act managed to be just as bad, if not worse than the first act.

I walked out of Light Shining at NYTW last weekend. It was too painful to sit though.

4 or 5 years ago, I saw The Steward of Christendom at the Mark Taper Forum in L.A. It wasn't very good, boring, hard to follow, dense dialog, meandering. At intermission, probably at good 50-60% of the audience left and that estimate might be low. I moved down from the 7th row to the front row which was now largely empty, not because I was enjoying the show but because it was a rare opportunity to watch a mere 10 feet in front of me, one of the greats of American theater, Brian Dennehy pour every last ounce of his being into a role. He obviously saw the many empty seats but it didn't matter, he gave everything he had to give. It was worth every moment of my time to watch this master work even if the play was a complete bore. For me, there's always some reason to stay.

Left during intermission for "On A Clear Day," "Fela," "Merchant of Venice,"

Wish I left at intermission for "The Wedding Singer."

I'm glad I decided against that one then.

NOTHING could make me sit through it again!

I think Phantom is nearly as bad. Now THAT is boring!

I think the idea that one must watch an entire show if one paid for the ticket is akin to committing to eat an entire meal that proves to be disgusting or wearing clothes that don't fit merely because they've been paid for. I suppose those things can be returned for a refund, but still...

I am no stranger to the walk out, because I can always find a better use for my time than watching theatre that strikes me as bad. And I can't think of any voluntary bad experience I would stick with in the (usually vain) hope that it might eventually get better.

Agreed. His actions were questionable AF.

He's 16 years old. Most 16 year olds these days have just spat out their 3rd kid. He made a stupid mistake, he apologised...get over it!

Partial recent list: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Bright StarSchool of Rock, Gigi, It's Only A Play, The Big Knife, Leap of Faith, etc., etc., etc. Usual reason - writing that seems to me to be stupid, lazy, and/or clichéd.

this is a discussion I have with my husband often.  He would leave a show if it was bad regardless.  I believe I came to see the show so I stay till the end.  It also depends on cost.  If I'm going to see a TDF show and it was really bad I'd leave however if I'm paying full price for a show I tend to stay.  That being said in hindsight I should have left a number of shows.  The touring company of Phantom was horrible and we left at intermission.  I would have left Matilda but we paid full price so we painfully watched the whole thing. I think I'm more apt to leave a play than a musical.

One memory that comes to mind is a play called "Hollywood Uncovered" by Billy Masters (at least I think that's the name I've tried to block it out)  it was touring a number of years back.  The gimmick was that a porn star was in the play and got naked at some point.  I knew it was going to be bad and couldn't find a review anywhere of it but my husband doesn't often pick things for us to see so we went....Boy was it bad and there wasn't an intermission but there were blackouts.  After every blackout sections of the theatre were empty.  Finally we made our move during another blackout only to run into the people across the aisle who were also leaving but they allowed us to run out first.

Yes, but your critiques about what you didn't like about them seem to be thing you could have sorted out in advance, especially if you read preview threads on here.

Most people who can't detect sarcasm online think this, but I rather people get the wrong impression than have to put a smily face after every sentence, oh well...

There’s a fine line between being an a**hole and being sarcastic. Maybe you should reevaluate how you jump into conversations?

The Encounter about 30 mins in- that show was absolute torture, John Lithgow: Stories by Heart at intermission after I woke up from my nap. I really wanted to walk out from Hughie but couldn't for logistical reasons.
