Last night was INCREDIBLE. It was basically Hedwig ala VH1 storytellers. All the songs from the show were performed (in random order) with John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask providing behind the scenes stories and info about the development of their professional relationship and the evolution of Hedwig. Tits of Clay reunited and Amber Martin provided back up vocals and assisted JCM with his costume changes. They had a guy to the side of the stage using an overhead projector to provide live visuals to go along with the stories. As mentioned before lots of surprise guests. Lena Hall came out and performed “White Punks on Dope” by The Tubes. As did Miriam Shor who performed a song I wasn’t familiar with. The real treat was Neil Patrick Harris who came out in the middle of “Angry Inch” and proceeded to crowd surf through the orchestra with JCM (not an easy feat considering the orchestra has seats). Overall just a really great night. If you’re a fan of Hedwig you will not be disappointed.

Going Tonight! I am so excited!! Bookending my week at Town Hall, a venue I've been to maybe 2 other times in my whole life lol Not ready for the grizzly heat in there however
The Jason Robert Brown/Sondheim concert was a night I'll never forget, so I'm hoping that this evening can match it in some way. JCM is no Sondheim (in historical impact at least), but Im a big fan of his and Hedwig, so my excitement is at a peak. What a great way to start World Pride Weekend!!

Last night a lot of people incorrectly assumed the HEDWIG portion was over and left over 1/2 hour early, then wound up missing out on sone of the highlights—including the amazing Finale!

No intermission. Almost 2:45 straight through, and as others have said, Town Hall was extremely hot!
Was anyone at Friday’s show who can help with who the final special guest was—someone dressed as Hedwig who joined in on “Angry Inch,” and I couldn’t quite make out who it was.

Friday’s guest was not NPH. I was there. I can confirm this, but idk who he was. I couldn’t hear when they announced his name.

Sorry I was thinking Thursday nights guest.
The guest last night was Mason Alexander Park, who was the standby Hedwig on the tour! He performed about a dozen times, and I believe has also done the role regionally. Incredible young performer!
I felt so many things last night. It was such an incredibly show.
I even got one of the signed big posters (by JCM and Trask) for $25.
When Lena Hall and Miriam Shor came out, I damn well lost it.
I was there Thursday and it was one of the most magical nights I’ve ever spent in a theater!!!! So many standing ovations!!! When JCM entered I thought the applause and cheers would never stop! Got two signed posters and had VIP tix that included a post show reception where I got to meet JCM, Trask, and Miriam Shore. Got hugged and kissed by JCM! Amazing!!!

I have 2 tix for tonight's final performance at 8pm if anyone is interested. Balcony, D 2-4
Total face value: $130.80. Transfer via Ticketmaster. Friend not feeling well and going out in the heat not a good idea for her. Sad to miss it. Hope someone else can enjoy!
It's coming back! Tickets went on sale today at noon for the Thursday and Friday before pride weekend again:

I love John but I have to say I was a little taken back by a recent interview where he really came for Madonna and called her "desperate." He then proceeded to mansplain who is and isn't considered female icons and why. It was surprising. Also, that he would be calling another artist desperate when in the article he was promoting yet another reinvention of the one thing he is actually known for and seems to keep milking.
I mean, Madonna is desperate.
And a guy’s gotta eat!

Where did you find this graphic? I love it and would love to get a higher res version! THANKS!

Well everyone has to eat, including Madonna. I still like him, it was just surprising.
Madonna could stop working now and live comfortably for hundreds of years. He has an opinion and expressed it. He is a punk rock radical faerie. Madonna probably represents everything he hates about pop culture and capitalism.

For what it's worth, the reason this tour began was/is to help support his mother and her medical needs. And if JCM want's to "milk" Hedwig for the rest of his life - please. Let him. I will be at every show I can. IMO the single best character to come from musical theatre in history. And to experience it with the man and team that created it is such a fun night. Can't wait to go again this summer.
(Also, I guess you have to decide if Madonna of all people is a hill you want to die on. There are lots of hills.)

Not planning on dying on that hill. All I said was it was surprising to me. I also love JCM and Hedwig. It just shocked to me to hear one creative go for another, infer things about her character and motivations. And while yes, as Totally Effed says, she probably represents facets of the industry and capitalism he loathes, she still does a tremendous amount of philanthropy. It’s one of the reasons she keeps working. To say she appropriates from gay culture when he appropriates from female performers is a bit hypocritical. And yes, I know he is working to support his moms health care. I’ve spent a small fortune at Junction City Mercantile. I can adore him and be critical of him simultaneously.
I'd be more surprised if someone who is all into Patti Smith, Lou Reed, Yoko, etc., WOULD be a huge Madonna fan... also, why would promoting the Criterion release of a 4K remastered edition of Hedwig on Blu-Ray be a sign of his desperation?!
