" it was specifically written for a woman and I think a lot of the musical material would come across as rather fey if sung by anything other than a woman"
This is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of a boy doing it. Of course.. if you give me Zach Efron in tights I am not going to complain.
In Russia, Peter Panski is real boy.
Captain Hookavitch is boy too.
All Pirates and Lost Boys are boys.

Ugh. Does no one use the search function? Multiple threads already. Several suggestions of Pink already. This isn't ATC. Threads don't die after a couple of days. Use the search function. Sheesh.
I've said this before, but there is no ****ing way a TRUE a-list male star (other than a... Chris Colfer type) is going to get cast as Peter. What agent or manager in his right mind is going to tell a young male client, "yeah you're a huge star but what you really need to do is put on some mint green tights, fly (kinda) around a soundstage singing showtunes"? In fact, if a true a-list star gets cast, I will fly to Roxy's bunker under Ted Cruz's home and personally toss his salad.

Wait - who's salad are you offering to toss - Roxy or Ted Cruz?

Anna Kendrick as Wendy, Pink as Tinker Bell and Skyler Aston as Peter
P.J. I couldn't sit thru it.
There's a Bulgarian one one YouTube that's even worse.
After watching Bill Murray's audition ... I have no words.
Bill Murray kinda nailed it, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it's going to look to millions of viewers.
EDIT: Actually, Bill Murray would make a fun (and different) Captain Hook.
I can really imagine Ross Lynch off Disney Channel as Peter, great draw in the teen crowd (don't know how well he can sing life though!)

Anything Anna Kendrick touches turns to gold right now. I love that idea.

I would imagine it would be difficult in terms of scheduling for Anna Kendrick, as both the rehearsals and broadcast would coincide with the ramp-up for Into the Woods publicity, and I would assume Disney/ABC might not be as willing to go easy on her schedule to accommodate a project on NBC. That is, of course, assuming that they are shooting for an air date in the same time frame as The Sound of Music.
What? no one wants Justin to say "Do you belieb in fairies?"

Kristin Bell could play either Peter or Wendy. She's developed a nice young fan base from "Frozen".
...and a hetero male fan base from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc.

Love the Kristin Bell suggestion, Jon. She hadn't even come to mind and while she's not a superstar, she is definitely an A-lister
Kristin Chenoweth as Peter
Jeremy Irons as Hook
Nathan Lane as Smee
Peter- Harry Styles
Wendy- Ariana Grande
Hook- Kelsey Grammer
NBC will announce their lead casting for PETER PAN at their 'Upfront' programming announcement on Monday, May 12th.
Just FYI...

I love the alliteration if they choose Pink.
If Harry Styles is Peter, how can he also be Danny Zuko for Fox's Grease?!
Practically perfect perfect pick for Peter, Namo.

Not that I think Harry Styles will be playing Peter, but Grease is set for 2015. Peter Pan is set for 2014. I'm sure if he and the networks really want him to do both it could be arranged.
