Guys and Freakin' Dolls. When will every single community and high school theatre realize that there are thousands of wonderful musicals OUTSIDE of Guys and Dolls?

"This is what I trained to do, and this is what I love about theater. What I love about being an actress is being able to really look into myself and understand another human being. And out my own self, to shape and form and fashion a real human being--and to present that in such a way that people see something of themselves or their own understanding in that human being." --Phylicia Rashad

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

Old thread!

Anyway, Finian's Rainbow does little for me, and Grease.

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

How could anyone dislike "Kiss Me, Kate"?

And BTW, I've never seen a live production of "Guys and Dolls" OR "My Fair Lady", but I love the movies.

Follies - love the songs individually... but as a show, it leaves me cold every time.

"Jaws is the Citizen Kane of movies."

The Music Man -I actually like the Jr. version a lot more as silly as that may sound but I think the full version DRAGS like no other!

Oklahoma- could barely sit through my friends high school production

*The Music Man
*South Pacific
*Camelot...I just finished this show, and I've never wanted to kill myself so much during a production. And I was hardly ever onstage.

H. Higgins -- I LOVE your avatar!

Marquise -- maybe your list would be shorter if you listed all the classics you DO like? (Just teasing. re: Classics that leave you cold )

Can we list movies? "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers." I can't for the life of me understand what so many people like about that movie.

Also "Oklahoma." I like the songs, and I know with my head that it's a good movie (and a good show), but I can't bring myself to sit through it again. It's strange, because ordinarily I quite like simple little love stories, but that one nearly puts me to sleep. I like the rest of R&H, though.

Annie-what a load of...

Those are the only two...

Oh! And West Side Story...

How to properly use its/it's: Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...

Cats
Phantom of the Opera
Funny Girl
And I still believe Mame and La Cage Aux Folles are way inferior to Herman's score for Mack & Mabel. Both of those shows don't do anything for me.
