Does it count if the person in the musical isn't doing their own singing? Like Audrey Hepburn or Natalie Wood or Deborah Kerr?
Leading Actor Joined: 3/2/08
Julie Andrews in anything she sings in
Rita Moreno - West Side Story (and very funny off key in THE RITZ)
Jane Powell in 7 Brides
Zeta Jones - Chicago
Robert Preston - Music Man & Victor/Victoria
Howard Keel - 7 Brides
Doris Day - almost all her films, particularly Pajama Game
I'd add Leslie Caron in LILI, but that is not really a musical, so add her in GIGI
No order at all:
1. The entire cast of Rent-Well, considering all but 2 were in the original Broadway show, I would expect them to be good.
2. Gene Kelly-Singin' in the Rain
3. Judy Garland-The Wizard of Oz
4. Julie Andrews-The Sound of Music
5. Jane Powell-Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
6. Howard Keel-Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
7. Nikki Blonsky-Hairspray
8. Zac Efron-Hairspray-Yes, I cannot believe I'm saying this. LMAO!!!!! Other than this movie, I hate him. He is definitely nowhere near as good as Nikki Blonsky though.
I think that's about it. I can't really think of anyone else right now.
The fact that someone would rate the cast of RENT, Nikki Blonsky, and Zac Efron's performances among the top ten performances ever committed to film in a musical is frightening. I weep.
Munk, I feel your pain.
I no particular order:
Julie Andrews in Sound of Music
Julie Andrews in Mary Poppins

Helena Bonham Carter in Sweeney Todd (yes i said it)
Rita Moreno in West Side Story
Amy Adams in Enchanted
Topol in Fiddler on the Roof
Barbra Streisand in Funny Girl
Carol Burnett in Annie
Gene Kelly in An American in Paris/Singin IN The Rain
oh gosh i know there's a lot more...
Am i the only one who would put Rosario Dawson on for Rent as well
The passion and emotion she had in that role just won me over
Well, heaven forbid we have different opinions. If we all thought the same thing, then we would have nothing to talk about. :)
Now if we were talking about worst performace ever in a movie musical, then for me, that would be Marlon Brando in Guys and Dolls. He just royally sucked, regardless of having a big name. Yeah, I think I'll stick with Zac Efron over him any day.

Hey now, Jesse L Martin and Wilson Jermain Heredia legit DID give some of the best performances I've seen in a movie musical. Truly. And Rosario Dawson and Anthony Rapp actually get honorable mentions in my opinion :)
But I agree about Nikki any Zac. And I like Nikki and Zac quite a lot actually! But they're certainly no where NEAR good enough to be on a list like this yet. Maybe some day, but not now.
Heather Headley "Aida"
Robert Preston "The Music Man"
Gordon MacRae "Oklahoma"
Yul Brenner "The King and I"
Frank Sinatra "Guys and Dolls"

Kasie, unless I'm very wrong, there is no movie of AIDA with Heather Headley.
I was going by Broadway and movie musicals. sorry, I went against what the thread was asking. god forbid.
But in her place I will put Donald O'Connor "Singing in the Rain"
