There is a pretty big band of the Pimpernel that I would expect to see a few up and comers in for sure. Some of them have more to do then others and some good one liners.
"You may have seen him on Broadway in 2017 with some of the greatest leading ladies to ever grace the stage..."
While I will admit that I've been hoping for Douglas Sills, this clue does seem to me to be referencing War Paint. (I've also been contemplating whether or not it could be referencing Hello Dolly! in the case of it being Gavin Creel, but I'm currently ruling that out as Bernadette's run started in February of this year...)

And here I was starting to hope I *wouldn't* have to make a trip in February!! Crossing fingers.

But Creel did appear with Bette and Donna in 2017.
That’s what I was thinking too (Creel with Bette and Donna). But I would be thrilled with either Sills or Creel!! I wonder when the next clue and/or announcements will be posted.
The more I think about it now the more I think it has to be Sills. They are using this whole clue thing as a way to hype it up the big reveal and it's getting to the point now that if it's NOT Sills, I think it's gonna be a let down. To me the whole clues leading up to "ORIGINAL Pimpernel Douglas Sills returns!" is far more impressive then, "You all thought we were gonna bring back the original, just kidding, it's Gavin Creel." Gavin in the role I think would have been more on the level of just annoucning him with the others. This is building suspence. I might just go ahead and submit my guess before the next (and I'm assuming last) clue. Clue 1 was two days ago so I assume that clue 3 will come Saturday and then they will announce on Monday?
"He is no stranger to playing the leading man. In fact, when he made his Broadway debut, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical."
Hm... I personally can't decide now if it's Sills (the original Scarlet Pimpernel in reference to this clue) or Creel (Thoroughly Modern Millie). Interestingly, the consensus in the Instagram comments section seems to be Creel.
I wonder if we'll get another clue next or just a casting announcement!

This. But I adore Gavin Creel too. I'm so conflicted.
I am so torn but I didn't want to risk not putting in a guess and then have them make the announce without another clue so I just went with my heart on this. Everyone thinks it's Gavin on social media that I think it's the opposite. Otherwise it would all be too obvious. Yet I am conflicted still. Well, it's done. I have my hopes.
I submitted my guess a.while back. I got an e-mail today saying, "We have been unexpectedly delayed and are unable announce the name at this time", and that they were entering the names of everybody who guessed into the drawing.
I hate to push rumors, but I'm assuming their original choice for Percy either had to back out, or is no longer a 100% thing?
That's interesting — was today supposed to be the day they notified the winner(s)? I feel like if they hadn't addressed the delay in such a reply, no one would've noticed anyway.

I don't think there was a specified day, but on the 5th they posted "Have you submitted your guess? Now is the time...into the fire we go!" So I'll admit I was anxious for the answer to be revealed
I am actually thinking that this delay might point into two directions 1.) that yes whoever it was had to back out and they are looking for a replacement thus allowing anyone that guessed anything a chance to win due to the clues no longer having a meaning. Or 2.) It's Gavin Creel and his announcement in Waitress last week has put a delay on his announcement in this. I am not sure how that type of thing works in Theatre but I have seen cases in Hollywood contacts that critical announcements about a performer's involvement in a project have to be made X amount of time apart from one another to not steal the attention from one project for another.
It would be amusing if Manhattan Concert Productions secretly coordinated with several Broadway actors, so that they all simultaneously announced "I am the Scarlet Pimpernel!" "No, *I* am the Scarlet Pimpernel!", a la Spartacus/Blackadder. (Although no doubt this would backfire in real life, due to fans feeling betrayed etc.)
Maybe they should bump Corey Cott up to the lead. I imagine he would be good, and at least they know that he's available.

Is Corey Cott funny? He's talented, but I never even seen him crack a joke. The role needs someone like Andy Karl in "On The 20th Century," but with Corey Cott's singing voice.
I mean I already have my tickets so it doesn't matter who it is in the long run as it's not a make or break for a purchase for me........ but I'm kind of getting a little aggravated that they have yet to make an announcement on this one. I'd like to know how happy or disappointed I am going to be in who the lead I will be seeing is. Haha.
Yeah, it's getting a bit late in the game to announce the lead, isn't it? The show's a little more than a month away, presumably they'd have to be in rehearsals by now.
Also, I'm going to be very curious to see how they do some of the scenes in a concert setting, like the finale with its swordfight. Is Norm Lewis going to be swordfighting with whoever plays Sir Percy? I wouldn't think so but the whole scene centers around the fight so it won't make a lot of sense if they don't stage it somehow.
^ My feeling exactly. I have vivid memories of sitting in the orchestra watching the original Bway production and wanting to climb under my seat at the riotous laughter that greeted every homophobic line and lyric spouted onstage. I found it insulting and grotesque back in 1998. I expect it would come off even more so in 2019.
