Cinderella , hopefully the new LP and Berthe will bring in some more money for Pippin, Andrea clearly is not a big draw. Overall not a good week for Broadway at all.
Is Gentleman's Guide the most positively impacted TONY winner ever? Even during a horrible week the theater was full and it played to over 94% of paid capacity.
But people say what a duff month September is becuase all the tourists have cleared off, but isn't this the start of the trade shows in New York City? Does this not help sales?
I look forward to NewSynchopation's prediction of snow in winter as well.
At a $514K gross, I'd be willing to bet they STILL were profitable. Sure, it ain't NPH but it doesn't need to be. Make real money in the good weeks and break even in the tougher weeks -- that's all they need to do and they can enjoy a nice, healthy and (even more) financially successful run.
"No matter how much you want the part, never let 'em see you sweat." -- Old Dry Idea commercial
Hedwig is doing better WITH Rannells than I would have ever thought.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I do like the way Kinky Boots keeps hovering in the fourth or fifth position. Matilda was trailing it pretty closely and then this years hits Aladdin and Beautiful came in. Says a lot about its staying power.
I agree, I expected lower numbers for HEDWIG. I have to imagine they're still above their weekly nut even with that number, or not far off.
How many performances of IF/THEN did Idina miss last week? They've been dipping but that number seems particularly bad.
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
