"We just have the wait and see what happens after the Tonys. What shows survive and which ones don't. Then we will see which houses are going to be vacant next season."

Do people still say "duh"?????

We have to wait and see what happens after the Tonys. Then we will know what happens after the Tonys. Because some people win awards and some don't.

A few weeks ago Baz Bamigboye tweeted Rylance in Farinelli and the King will take the Belasco in December. Does that qualify as confirmation?

Good question. I think it'll make for better consistency if we only consider "confirmation" to mean something along the lines of a press release. I'm sure Bamigboye is right and that we can expect this news in official form shortly, but if we allow tweets to qualify as confirmation, then we run the risk of a lot of "confirmed" shows falling through...

Has it ever been a play before?

I'm still really surprised that Spongebob just kind of went and died. I'm curious to hear the music.

I'm curious about SpongeBob, as well! One of my friends saw it in Chicago and absolutely ADORED it. Said it was one of her favorite shows, no joke.

I firmly believe that SpongeBob isn't dead. It's been widely rumored that it's waiting for 1 of 2 theaters to open up. The show is MASSIVE, so it can't just take any old theater that's up for grabs. Also, with Nickelodeon as a producer (their first theatrical venture), I highly doubt they would just have a Chicago production and let it go. It's also worth mentioning that a cast album WAS recorded and is intended to be released when the show gets to NYC.

If anything, I don't think Spongebob is gonna open this year. This year is so packed, and most of the big theatre's are booked. Though people have mentioned the Marquis Theatre, so that is a possibility. Though I'm not sure that On Your Feet! is gonna announce a closing date anytime soon. Even though their numbers have not been good at the box office recently, it seems like they're trying very hard to keep the show running. I guess we'll see what happens.

Random question: is anybody else a little concerned about the lack of new musicals currently announced? It seems like there are a bunch of revivals on the horizon, but that there aren't a ton of new musical works on the way (like there have been over the last two seasons). Might just be me, though.

Wow, I was just about to leave a comment expressing the same concern!

After a season that was new musical heavy, is it really surprising to see less musicals announced for the next one? I think shows won't start announcing until more theatres start to become open.

It also seems very revival heavy. Are there any confirmed new musicals? There are several revivals, and several more have been rumored, but no new musicals. The Band's Visit, perhaps?

Well every new musical ever opened this season, so.

Don't worry. There are always more.

And yes to Band's Visit. We should be hearing about that soon.
