What do you think the biggest mistake(s) are. I say:
Wicked losing Best Musical
Winnie Holzman losing for Wicked's book
West Side Story losing Best Musical
I know there are more, but those are ones that come immediatley to my mind.

oh lord.
Probably West Side loosing best musical. Clearly better than Music Man. Remember, Whinnie Holtzman adapted the book. The real winner is the guy who wrote the book. If WICKED had been written directly for the theatre I would have been pissed it lost book.
The Producers.
Winnie Holzman being nominated for Wicked's book.
Bernadette Peters not winning for Gypsy
FOLLIES losing best musical to TWO GENTLEMAN OF VERONA.
SUNDAY IN THE PARK losing practically everything to LA CAGE.
The producers winning all that it did. I mean, it is funny but not the greatest musial ever, which that is what they are saying if you go by Tony Awards.
Agree on the Producers. The music is so forgettable
I mean, "Springtime for Hitler" is priceless, but you can get that by watching the movie (great movie by the way). i think they should do a BLAZING SADDLES musical. OMG that would be the funniest thing.
I think that neither Wicked nor Winnie Holzman deserved a Tony.
As for mistakes, perhaps the snubbing of Ann Harada?

Pacific Overtures losing Best Musical.
Is this going to become yet another "I'm mad the very best musical in the whole wide world lost" thread? If so I have only 3 words for you..... GET OVER IT!

The problem with the year of The Producers was that there wasn't much in the way of competition, coupled with the enormous PR machine that The Producers put to its command.
But worse than that? The year Contact was nominated as Best Musical.
BTW, Effie: good calls.
Thanks, Bway11. I just re-read my post and have decided that "The Snubbing of Ann Harada" should be a Lifetime movie.
Hunter Foster not being nominated for Urinetown.

taboo not winning for best costumes. uhhh thats all i can think of right now in my shallow little brian! (just kidding! :) )
It took all of 13 minutes for Two Gentlemen of Verona/Follies to get mentioned!
I like Nine well enough, but I would have given the 1982 Tony Award for Best Musical to Dreamgirls.
Will Rogers Follies winning over Miss Saigon! (or even The Secret Garden for that matter......) Ugh.
The entire 2001 season, the wins the omissions, the nominess, etc... More recently, Winokur winning over Peters and Menzel winning over Pinkins.
Fosse is legend and we all love him for what he did, so honor the man, but FOSSE didn't deserve a best musical tony that's for damn sure. Parade should have won. Period.
Oh, and I don't care if she has one, Tonya was robbed.
Love Idina, but Tonya deserved it.
And before all of you little Wicked girls tackle me in the street, spend that $25 on tickets to Caroline or Change instead of another Wicked poster.
We had this discussion not too long ago.
I don't believe Wicked deserved any more awards than those it won.
Major oversights in the past included Urinetown, Parade, Falsettos and Into the Woods not winning Best Musical as well as Contact and Movin' Out being categorized as musicals when they are clearly both ballets. I'd give Movin' Out a little leeway, but Contact had no live music, for goodness' sake!
PS - I don't think Follies deserved Best Musical and I'm a little iffy on Sunday in the Park With George. I'm not a fan of La Cage, but the second act of Sunday is incredibly tedious and difficult to sit through. If I don't fall asleep during "Children and Art", then I nod off during "Move On".
Also Jerome Robbins Broadway as Best Musical - almost as crazy as Contact.
Brighton Beach Memoirs not being nominated as Best Play.
Crazy For You winning Best Musical over Falsettos and Jelly's Last Jam.
Cats winning Best Book.
