Favorite Forbidden Broadway Spoofs

what are your favorite FORBIDDEN BROADWAY spoofs? i find that the funniest ones are of performers/shows that i adore.

i think my favorite that i've seen live is I COULDN'T HIT THE NOTE, spoofing julie andrews. i was having spasms in my theatre seat. and i LOVE julie!

my fave that i've only heard on CD is the TITANIC spoof. brilliantly hilarious lyrics! and i love that show too. "SHIP OF AIR" makes me scream. and then of course there's:

"dit dit dot dit dot dit
pity you're not a hit
quit, you're a piece of ****
go away ..."

when i saw FB last week, they didn't do DEFYING CHENOWETH, and i was SO disappointed!

I love defying chenoweth. I also love the Fiddler on the roof spoof, the Bombay Dreams and The Lion King. Theres alot more that I love.

The one that always sticks in my head is the Chita/Rita song....too FUNNY!

I think Chita and Rita should do it on the Tonys.

I think my favorite from the latest edition has to be the spoof of Assassins' "Unworthy of your Love". I don't know if anyone's seen it, but instead of singing to "Charlie" and "Jodie" they dedicate the song to Stephen Sondheim. The girl spoofing Squeaky Fromme licks a photograph of Sondheim passionately, and then I proceeded to fall out of my chair. Oh and at the very end, she pretends to cut her forehead with a fake knife and then squirts ketchup down her face to simulate blood! Disturbing yes, until the guy playing John Hinkley takes out some McDonald's fries and wipes the ketchup off her forehead and eats it! It's all done so seriously and ritualistically that you can't help but laugh at how freaking crazy they are. Long post, has anyone seen this? I almost passed out from laughing!

I agree with everyone who said "Chita/Rita". The line "Long as you stay on the MATTRESS" always makes me spasm over with laughter. (Not to mention the brilliance of "Gypsies, Italians and Black Jews." Gerard once had bite, didn't he?) Updated On: 12/3/04 at 11:53 PM

Sorry, I'm not really knocking Gerard. I think he's a terrific talent.

I just feel that his work used to be a little more satirical, and a little meaner. He seems to have mellowed with age, which is probably good for some people. I must confess that I rather enjoy his mean side. It makes for a funnier evening in the theatre.

As for his comment that no one would get "Chita/Rita," I'm a bit flummoxed. Who doesn't know who those three people are? Pia Zadora may be a bit of a stretch, but I think it would still play.

and the Les Miserables parody that has Fantine singing "I dreamed a dream" with lyrics like "Neil Diamond didn't sing my hit song...."

Definitely the entirety of the "Rent" parody, just because the guys playing Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal sound so much like them. Oh, and because of the line: "In Boheme, Mimi is a sweet, shy seamstress. In Rent, she's a crackhead nymphomaniac prostitute! YEAH!"
