I normally don't do this but Phantom is the one got that got me into musical theater, so i have a sort of special connection to it. I just want to say that I hope it never leaves!!! I could not imagine Broadway without it.. It would just not be the same. Updated On: 1/9/06 at 12:15 AM
CONGRATULATIONS to Phantom!! One my most favourite musicals ever. Loved Emmy Rossum as Christine.
"To starving for attention, hating convention, hating pretention....not to mention of course, hating dear ol' Mum and Dad."
"And nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was, is ever gonna bring ME DOWN!!!!"
CONGRATULATIONS! You have made a special mark in musical theater, and have changed broadway. It is very rare that a show as great as this comes along.

(Martha Graham from a letter to Agnes de Mille) "There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening That is translated through you into action, And because there is only one of you in all time, This expression is unique. If you block it, It will never exist through any other medium And be lost. The world will never have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, Nor how valuable it is, Nor how it compares with other expressions. It is your business to keep it yours, clearly and directly, To keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware Directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open. No artist is pleased. There is no satisfaction whatever at any time. There is only a queer, divine dissatisfaction, A blessed unrest that keeps us marching And makes us more alive than others."
Agreed wickedfreak...i dont understand why someone like that would click on a thread that says "CONGRATS TO PHANTOM!!!" just to post something like that. This is a friendly broadway message board, its unfortunate there are people like this who have to degrade a broadway show that has ran for 18+ years, its a rarity for a great show to last so long nowadays. So many shows have closed too quickly. Congrats to the cast and creators! I also can't imagine broadway without the phantom marquee.
Im not degrading it....I, like some people here, am about quality not quanity. In my opinion, it is rusty.

No, it's not the best musical ever, at least in my opinion. But any show that's been able to draw people to Broadway for this long deserves to be congratulated.
Probably the greatest, if not one of the greatest musicals ever written and certainly got me interested in theatre. It holds a special place in musical theatre and earned it outright. Wishing everyone all the best for tonight and may it continue long into the future...!
Saw the London production last Tuesday when it celebrated 8,000 performances in London, within a week we have Phantom becoming the longest running show in Broadway history - now that's a feat to be bettered!
"What if Betty Buckley goes pshyco and decideds to burn the theatre right now because it will make cats no longer Now and Forever?"
This is the funniest thing I've seen in quite a while. I can see it now:
CNN Breaking news: Crazy old actress seen running from flaming theatre while singing about memories and moonlight.
David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail
-Into the Fire
Scarlet Pimpernel
Congratulations to you, dear Phantom of the Opera! You are what started my love for theatre. You deserve to stay on Broadway for many, many years. I know so many that have become broadway fans because of you.
