In the light of Diana DeGarmo's success on the Great White Way, (based solely on vocal performances and not acting ability) in which shows would you cast the current American Idol finalists?
Ace Young- I love him but I don't think his voice is strong enough for Broadway. Maybe as Kenicke or Doody in Grease. Not too sure about Ace.
Chris Daughtry- Phantom...his rockish voice reminds me of Gerard Butler as the phantom. I loved the rock edge in the movie and I think it would be an interesting change. I can see him as Roger in RENT as well.
Kellie Pickler-I could see her as Rusty or Ariel in Footloose. Maybe even June in Gypsy.
Katharine McPhee-Elphaba all of the way! Her voice astounds me and her range is incredible.
Taylor Hicks- I have no idea where I'd put him.
Paris Bennett- I can see her as the Seasons of Love Soloist or Motormouth Maybelle (sp) from Hairsray if she were older.
Elliot Yamin- I can't quite place him either.
Megan Mullally as Karen Walker on Will and Grace: "Tell me more. Tell me more. Like does he have a car?"
Kathrine- Elphaba or Eva Taylor- Roger in Rent Ace-Angel or Fiyero Paris-Aida and little Inez Chris- Rent Kelli-Glinda or something in Gypsy I guess Elliot-mmmm, Madame Morrible? IDK.
Paris as TiMoune in OOTI. Kat McPhee as Nellie Forbush Chris as Judas in JC Superstar Pickler as one of those whores in BLWIT Taylor as Pap Finn in Big River Ace as Rocky Horror Elliot as Mickey in Blood Brothers
I can see Mandisa replacing Frenchie Davis as the Seasons of Love soloist whenever Frenchie leaves. They have the same voice range and both look semi-alike.
I like the idea of Katharine as Eponine... Chris as Freddy in Chess Paris as Emmy in Caroline or Change Taylor as Vernon in They're Playing Our Song (I'd love to hear him sing Fallin')
I don't think any of the rest of them are talented enough to be on Broadway - or even on AI any more...
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
The following I knew should have these parts the second I heard them sing: Katherine-Eponine or Katherine-Elphaba (picture her singing the Wizard And I) Mandisa-Rent soloist (I agree WhatDoINeed, but I can see her in the part) Kellie-Glinda (could it happen? proabably not)
These I just thought would be cool: Agree with Paris as Ti Moune Taylor-Mark in Rent or Freddy in DRS. That. Is. His. Part. Chris-Roger in Rent Elliot-don't know. I'm on a role with Rent...Mark? Ace-Fiyero? Don't think he's right for Broadway though.
I saw Clay Aiken on a repeat of SNL the other day, and I'm thinking that even though he doesn't have the most "Oh my God!" voice, it's more for Broadway than for pop. I could easily see him as Fiyero, or even just singing One Song Glory, IMO.
The day Kellie Pickler gets a job on Broadway is the day I stop acting.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
Am I the only one who doesn't think that Kat McPhee could handle the belt heavy roles of Eponine and Elphaba? I don't know what I see her as. Though I do appreciate her as talented.
Chris should be in RENT or Chess.
All the others should stay.
Clay Aiken however, should not act on broadway, but he should sing some broadway classics.
I thought Mandisa would be great in Dreamgirls, but once I found out about her homophobic attitude? Yeah. I don't think so.
I'd hate to see Kelly Pickler on Broadway, but I think it would be hysterical to have her sing "Oklahoma?" from DRS.
Does anyone know if they'll have a Broadway night this year? They have in all previous seasons.

"I'm tired of following my dreams. I'm just going to ask them where they're going and meet up with them later." -Mitch Hedberg
When Kellie Pickler ever comes within reach of Broadway will be the day Harvey Fierstein is Pippi in Trailer Park. Nooo.
After one of Katharine's performances, Randy said it was kind of Broadway. Which means at some point, she will be cast in RENT or something poppy like that. I mean COME ON ... SCOOTER GIRL WAS ASKED TO PLAY MAUREEN.
