What are some Broadway songs that are overrated? As in, you don't get the hype surrounding them. I'll start the list with two.

"Defying Gravity" (Wicked)- Yes, this song is fun to sing, however, I really don't see what all the fuss is. People can sing higher than Idina Menzel, you know.

"If I Loved You" (Carousel) - Yes, it's pretty, but for some odd reason, I found this song pretty boring. But then again, I first heard it at 12 o'clock in bed, so I really can't be objective.

Name some other songs that are, in your opinion, overrated.

You insult me, I ignore you. That's how the system works around here.

How is Defying Gravity overrated?

Sure, tweens all over the world ejaculate when they hear the song, but the song isn't by any means good - the music didn't get good reviews, but because the demon woman belts at the end, it's brilliant to many underage people. But, while "If I Loved You" is a wonderfully written, beautiful song that is a classic - it could certainly qualify to be overrated.

Saying "Defying Gravity" is overrated is like saying "Brooklyn" is an overrated musical.

I don't think Defying Gravity is overrated either. It's basically the heart and soul of Wicked. It was for me anyway.

I think Fable is overrated. Hear me out here. While it is a gorgeous song and I love it to death I don't think it's the best thing in Piazza. I think both Beauty Is's are much better. Not to mention Say It Somehow, Love to Me, I could go on.

Corner of the Sky is overrated. People like it a lot. I don't.

IMO, Defying Gravity is overrated too. People keep saying it's the best song in the whole show blah blah blah, but seriously, the lyrics ruin it for me. "I hope you're happy, I hope you're happy too. blah blah " And the melody isn't that good until the last minute when Elphaba levitates... It's only good during the last minute or so, but the rest sucks.

"Zac is sweet as can be. He's very much just a sweet kid from California who happens to have a face that looks like it was drawn by Michelangelo, (if Michelangelo did anime)."
-Adam Shankman.

"I haven't left this building since Windows 3.1!"

"Celebrating a birthday this week: Rene Descartes is 412! Do you know who he is? Then why are you watching this show? You could probably get into college and even get one of those job things. As for the rest of us; Amanda Bynes is 22! Yay!"
-E!'s "The Soup"

If there's anything from that musical that is NOT overrated, it's Defying Gravity and No Good Deed. To me, those are both brilliant songs. I could do without the rest of Wicked in a second.

Take Me or Leave Me from Rent and Bring Him Home from Les Miserables both come to mind as "overrated," but that's purely a matter of subjectivity and personal taste more than anything else.

I don't think that Defying Gravity is overrated, but I agree with COOOOOL that its only great at the end, and it is not the best song in the show.

Take Me or Leave Me? I LOVE THAT SONG!

I'd agree that Corner of the Sky is overrated.

One- I hardly think it is the best song in the show. But, it is good.

As much as I love SPAMALOT I think Always look on the bright side of life is overrated. I think Will you light my candle from rent is also overrated. But Defying Gravity wins the song as most over-rated.

I'll agree with Seasons of Love. Partly because it was played to death when the movie first came out.

Seasons of Love- all choirs are doing it. My school did it and even middle school choirs.

I think there's a definite distinction between OVERDONE and OVERRATED.

I would say that On My Own and Seasons of Love are both OVERDONE, but hardly overrated.

And If I Loved You is neither! It's brilliance!

[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

Thanks InfiniteTheaterFrenzy I was thinking the exact same thing and getting ready to say it then I read your post. The only song I can think of that is overrated is the tittle song from Phantom of the Opera.

I Wish... Madeline Kahn could have played the Witch in Into the Woods. She would have rocked!

um, all of les miz?

Also, Not While I'm Around - except in the context of the show... without the eery foreboding contained within the show, it's boring and monotonous.

I add, "What I did for Love"

If Percy Blakeney were in Les Mis....

Percy: Sink me! If it isn't Javvurt!
Javert: Zsah-vair, it's pronounced Zsah-vair.
Pecry: But it's spelled J-A-V-E-R-T Javvurt.
Javert: Repeat after me Zsah...Zsah....
Percy: Oh! Zsa-Zsa! Like the Gabor sister! Well I personally have always prefered Eva.
Javert: (Looks for gun)

I think "Seasons of Love" is overrated, which is why it is also overdone. It's not the worst song in Rent, but its certanity not the best and it does include part of the message of Rent, but other songs truly capture the spirt of the show.

There's a lot I am not certain of...

"If I Loved You" is one of the most brilliant pieces of musical theatre writing EVER.

I also don't think "Defying Gravity" is overrated.

I think "Memory" is overrated, so are a lot of Frank Wildhorn's power ballads.
