The responses of a GWM and a girl. When I suggested to see Hairspray. How do you guys react to those comments?

I walk away. I hate people who don't give musicals or Broadway a chance. I have a couple of friends who, when I say that people should listen to some Broadway and take a break from the rap they reply "Yeah but you can't dance to Broadway" or "I hate slow music" and "Ugh. But musicals are so innocent and pure." Ohhhh ignorance.
Anyway, I hate it when people don't give musicals a chance. It's a pain, but what can ya do?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
How do you avoid dealing with them? I mean, there are a lot of people like that out there?

I second what popular elphie said!! I hate my friends who think me liking Broadway is just a waste of time and is a boring 'obsession' ..they have never seen a musical in their life, and I just don't argue with them and let them have their opinion. I pretty much end those conversations so no flames are thrown.
Depending on my mood and the person in question, I may laugh or roll my eyes.
I usually say, "There's a musical for everyone" and then proceed to give examples. If I'm in a sassy mood, I may taunt them by saying something like..."Scared you're gonna like it?"...generally followed by a devious smile.
Luckily, my friends listen to my suggestion about musicals they may or may not like. I also have a talent for being able to "sell" people on shows. I write a lot, so I can describe things pretty well.

I wanted my friend to see Avenue Q with me because i wanted to go to the theatre and I thougth that he would like the show. He siad that he didn't typically like musicals. So, I told him my four favoirte songs frm that show nadh ad him download it of of itunes. I made a bet with him and said that if he didn't laugh once during the four songs then I would pay him back the four bucks he spent on the songs. he laughed during all of them. We ended up having a great time at the theatre.

winston, I had a similar experience. I was planning a trip with my friend to NYC, and I suggested we go see Avenue Q while we were in town (I had seen it once already). She went along with it so I bought the tickets, but she said the same thing, she doesn't really like musicals. Well, I played a few of the songs for her in the car on the drive down, and she got a good laugh out of each one, especially "Mix Tape". She ended up enjoying the show a great deal.
Now if I could just get her to see Hairspray, either on Broadway or at the movies. It's going to take much more convincing I'm afraid.

Well, finally adding my own story: Two years ago, I was doing a pre-college program at Barnard, and we were talking about musicals in my Sociology class. One of the girls, who was very rich, came from Germany, and was an overall b*tch, said, "I just can't stand musicals, and how everyone is so HAPPY." You all know that's never the case. It angers me when someone makes a stupid generalization like that.
Because they have never seen a musical, or Hairspray in particular. I say "Go see it, then hate it", but people judge a musical before they see it, and hate it just because it's a musical. That bothers me.

I have no problem with different tastes, but the absolute hatred of a genre of art is something I like to call "Artistic Nazism" and they can all **** off.
I have several names, one is Julian2. I am also The Opps Girl. But cross me, and I become Bitch Dooku!
