Hey guys -
can you help me out with something....I am trying to find composers that create music similar to that of Stephen Schwartz - primarily music similar to Wicked - orchestrational and big. Any help would be appreciated.

Looking for pop music with terrible lyrics?
Frank Wildhorn.
well, I know where this thread is heading....
Frank Wildhorn.
Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Mili Vanili.
That's about it.
the sound of Wicked isn't really due to Schwartz alone. It sounds like you are interested in big, dramatic orchestrations. In that case:
Alan Boublil - Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Martin Guerre, etc.
Webber - specifically Evita, Sunset Blvd.,
Lawrence O'keefe - Composer of "Legally Blonde", though "Bat Boy" is more similar to that style than Blonde is. also, look for a recording of "3hree" his is the first show- "The Mice"- has some really nice gems in it.
hope that helps

And Wicked sounds nothing like Schwartz's other shows.
exactly, Joe.
That's why I assume he means the orchestral sound of Wicked and not Schwartz' style specifically.
Mili Vanili
Brilliant
I second Frank Wildhorn
and the sound of a toilet flushing.
Ha ha, who knew that Schwartz bashing threads were as entertaining as Idina bashing ones
Parts of Wicked remind me of Children of Eden.
FOR WHATEVER TIME WE HAVE and AS LONG AS YOU'RE MINE are the same song.
I was just about to write that, LJay!

Maybe he means "Composers that write popular, money-making, beloved shows"? So that leaves out Sondheim....
And Lachuisa. But who would suggest him anyway?
There's a part of "One Short Day" that sounds just like "All The Livelong Day" from Working.
I know everybody's just joking, but people always complain that Wicked fans make no effort to broaden their horizons. Here's a fan who is sorta trying and even he or she can't catch a break! haha
True, but
and the sound of a toilet flushing.
THAT is just too funny.
And true.
im sorry, but i dont think there is anyone you can compare stephen schwartz to and i mean that in the negative way. so webber & boublil are not similar or equatiable to stephen schwartz, post wicked at least because they are pretty amazing (not as amazing as sondheim though haha) and schwartz just doesnt really cut it for me...
btw- i am finally REALLY happy to find people who realize there are way better musicals than wicked and that its not even that good
although the sound of a synthesized toilet flushing would be a great replacement for schwartz haha
