Okay.. there's already a thread about the LEAST amount of stage time for one actor/character in a show. How about the MOST? Who's on stage for pretty much the entire show? Three that come to my mind...

1. Tracy in HAIRSPRAY
2. Elle in LEGALLY BLOND
3. The actor playing Princeton/Rod in AVENUE Q

And Elphaba is on stage for most of the whole show except the opening numbers of both acts.

Diana in Next to Normal. She barely leaves the stage and when she does it's almost always only for costume changes. (At least in the Second Stage incarnation.)

Does this count plays? I directed Alice in Wonderland more than a year ago and Alice literally never leaves the stage for 2+ hours.

Yeah I did Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and the title characters don't ever leave the stage...and that play is almost 3 hours.

Jean Valjean is on the stage for only part of each act. He actually barely gets any stage time compared to Marius or Eponine.

THE MOST:
Elle - Legally Blonde (does she even ever leave the stage for more than a couple minutes?)
Melchior - Spring Awakening
Clara - The Light in the Piazza
Christine Ebersole - Grey Gardens (both roles)

Stage Manager in Our Town. I don't know about Broadway productions, but in our school production she(the director cast a girl, I don't know why, she was horrible too) never left the stage I think.

Hmm I guess I was wrong about Jean Valjean, oh well, I always thought he had more stage time than Marius and Cosette, but it could be because he is onstage at the beginning and they come on later, but he doesn't really leave the stage much at first except to change costumes between scenes. He seems to always be lurking around during Cosette's scenes like A Heart Full of Love. Even at the barricades, Valjean is there. I remember reading somewhere that Marius and Cosette were on chorus contracts and Valjean, Javert, and Fantine were the only ones on principal contracts.

John Adams in 1776. He's not onstage the whole time, but quite a lot of it.

How has no one mentioned Charity in Sweet Charity? She doesn't even get to change costumes AND has to do some serious dancing on top of that.
