Billy Joel = the single greatest musician of the 20th century: Agree or disagree?
Again, I don't know if this has been posted before...shoot me if it has.

My mom's a big fan of his. I could go either way - some of his work I enjoy, but at the same time, there's a few of his songs that just get under my skin.
"Yes, the brutalities of progress are called revolutions. When they are over, men recognize that the human race has been harshly treated but it has moved forward." - Les Miserables

I believe he hit his peak with the "An Innocent Man" album, because "The Bridge" was an absolute disaster.
I am a very big fan of "Turnstiles," "The Stranger," and "Glass Houses," with the latter probably being his best album. I really wish I had the chance to see him perform when he was young, because now he just seems bored.

I have vidoes of myself as a three year old singing along and dancing to "Uptown Girl."
Yes I love Billy Joel.

BILLY JOEL ROCKS
I love him. Period.

Oh, and I don't care much for Uptown Girl either. My favourites from Joel are Stiletto, Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, Rosalinda's Eyes, Piano Man, Until the Night, I've Loved these Days, Prelude/Angry Young Man, and a few others.

I don't think he's the best, but his talent is undeniable. I saw him in concert at the Garden last April and he's quite the entertainer. His music appeals to all generations. My favorite songs are "Still Rock and Roll . .. " "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant," "New York State of Mind," and "Angry Young Man."
Ahh too many to name!

#16re: Billy Joel
Posted: 5/5/07 at 7:24pmAside from numerous keyed instruments, I believe he plays guitar (as shown on the videos for "Allentown" and "A Matter of Trust).

LOVE Billy.
Saw him in Kansas City at his peak.
When he sang "Uptown Girl," Christie Brinkley jumped up on stage from the front row and danced with him on stage.
Pure heaven.

While the businessmen slowly get stoned...
The Piano Man is my party piece.
And yes, Human torch, he plays piano & keyboards, guitar, and a bit of trumpet, but I don't think he's ever played trumpet on his albums or live performances, though the cover of 52nd street does picture him with a trumpet.

I'll always love him. I nearly wore out my parent's eight track tape player listening to Glass Houses!

I grew up listening to him because my dad is a huge fan, and I just love his music.
"Only the Good Die Young" is one of my favorite songs ever.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu#23re: Billy Joel

Posted: 5/6/07 at 11:03amDoesn't he play the harmonica too? I have a distinct image of him at the piano and playing the harmonica. Unless someone else plays it on Piano Man. Anyway, I love most of his stuff, though I agree with pretty much everyone here that he's probably not THE best singer/songwriter in the 20th century.
