Have you ever thought that maybe some high percentage of Republicans don't hate gay people, but find you and those like you impossible to muster empathy for?  Take me for example.  I've done nothing and said nothing deserving of such hate that you fling at Republicans.  You are not entitled to my vote, yet you demand it else I am garbage.  Why in your mind should I have ANY empathy for you, let alone so much empathy that I should vote against my own self-interests?

Many of us Republicans are not anti-gay and are even on your side in many ways (not you specifically, because of the despicable things you're willing to spew ), but unfortunately, you're not.

What are your feelings on marriage equality, Pauly?

Can you understand why gay people would be upset to see the Supreme Court dismantle it? Or why they might blame MAGA voters?

Could you support a Democrat who is opposed to hetero marriage?

Would you support a Republican candidate who wanted to repeal civil rights for people of color?

Why are LGBTQ issues so low on your list of priorities?

That’s a lot of questions, I know. Take them as rhetorical if you prefer. Long story short - full LGBTQ equality in every aspect of life should be a red line for any decent person!

Jay, I think marriage equality is a complicated issue, and for some a great deal complicated while for others not so much, not unlike abortion, and I'm guessing you disagree with me on this.  If I'm right, then you have no actual interest in what I think about marriage equality.  In other words, you're very much of the mind that says "ally with me, not 90% but 100%, or you're against me".  Am I close?  If not correct about you, there's no question that is the case with kdogg's thinking.

I understand to varying degrees all sorts of issues, but regardless I am able to consider, respect and weigh many viewpoints, whether I agree, disagree or fall somewhere in the middle.  I am more tolerant of people than you and light years more tolerant than kdogg.  I'm guessing we disagree on that too.    And if so, it's because you are less capable or less willing to consider, respect, and weigh many viewpoints regardless of whether you agree, disagree or fall somewhere in the middle.

What's more fascinating, or rather, inexplicable, is you pointing out the absurdity of Dems and so-called MAGAs swapping positions now in 2024 from 2020, but somehow implying that it was/is only the MAGAs acting stupidly and hypocritical.  You all like division, don't you?  You actually prefer it.  You prove it over and over and over again.

Two people who love each other, want to make a life together, and avail of all the legal protections that can make that happen.

Simple.

I do genuinely want to know what issues you may have with this. As of now, I fail to understand why you would begrudge anybody this right. There is no rationale at all, as far as I can see.

Jay, I don't have all the answers, but differing values and lived experiences is what make the issue complicated.  I know you're saying to yourself I am in idiot for saying that.  That's because you demand it is a very simple issue.  It is not.  The extraordinarily long history of the institution of marriage, within a so-called nuclear family, is rooted in a value system having nothing to do with bigotry.  I know many likely disagree with that.  The world has changed over the last 50 years or so, and many believe movements, such as the sexual revolution, have had a specific negative impact on good family values.  They believe more kids are growing up with mental issue and becoming criminals, largely because of the deterioration of family values.  Abortion plays into all of this as well.  That there is opposition to "marriage equality" is no surprise.  It is complicated.

I still don’t understand what’s complicated. Marriage equality and “family values” are not mutually exclusive. No morals are compromised by accepting that gay people exist.

Can’t you at least separate church from state on this matter? Allow citizens to live as THEY see fit, not how you see fit for them.

Is it a deep-trenched generational thing, which means it can never change… like say, all POTUSes must be men?
