I can't seem to find many of the supporting nominations. I saw Emily Blunt for Prada (if she got in there and O'Hara didn't, I'll be rip****!) and Supporting Actor (Nicholson, Whalberg, and I forget who else...just remember Michael Sheen wasn't on the list, neither was anyone from the Little Miss Sunshine crew).
Not terribly thrilled with the nominations, I must say.
No Catherine O'Hara but I'm not surprised. The Globes love certain actresses (as in: Renee Zelwegger or Nicole Kidman could shoot up and barf on film and still get nominated).
Also, where were they pushing O'Hara? Supporting? Best leading? If she were eligible for leading, I'll confess that I'm shocked she was left out. The supporting category isn't broken down by comedy/drama so it's more understandable she might not make it in there.
Well I am more happy about the TV ones. Esecially Steve Carell, Ugly Betty and Heroes

In the druggie sweepstakes, Maggie G, yes, Ryan Gosling, no. I would've nominated Ryan, but it looks like a packed category for men, and who knew? Three months ago, there were no nominees OTHER than Gosling. The fall syndrome.
Five nominations for Dreamgirls. Yay!
No nomination for Bill Condon as Best Director.
BOOOO.
Go Dreamgirls WOOT!
The nominations are WILD. In some ways, they feel right on--in others, a complete mind****!
I'd like to point out I like Tony Shalhoub. he was fun in Wings and he had some great comic moments in "Galaxy Quest."
If he beats the rest of the nominees for Best Actor in a Comedy -TV, I will take his statue and personally beat each HFPA voter over the head until they bleed.
I don't even get their screenplay category.
Is it one big "lump" for both original and adapted works?
Yes...the screenplay award is not broken out into adapted and original.
The thing to remember is that GG Screenplay and Director categories aren't good predictions for the Oscars.
The acting and Pic noms are--and can be death for a win (though not a nomination) if they weren't nominated here. Thus, United 93 has nil shot at winning the Best Picture Oscar, but could still get nominated. Iwo Jima would seem to be out now--but the GG foreign film nom could be the exception. The race for Best Picture still would seem to be between Dreamgirls, The Departed, and Letters From Iwo Jima.
I was thrilled to see Emily Blunt get nominated. It's fun when they surprise. But, I do understand the disappointment with others not getting nominated. I hope this means that Barraza will get nominated. She was one of those actors who usually gets overlooked, but was glorious.
chewitel ejiofor got two nominations!!! i LOVE him. so glad for his recognition.
bwaysinger... i completely agree with you about Tony Shalhoub... how he wins every award i will never understand... Zach Braff deserves it! But i will take anyone over Shalhoub...
Bobby for Best Picture Drama??? Wasn't that mostly panned? I'm happy Big Love got a nom for Drama Series, but shocked none of the actors were nominated. They are such a fantastic ensemble.
Bill Paxton was nominated wasn't he? I adore Big Love and am so happy it was nominated... I wish House was nominated... i think that show is brilliant...
Yes, "Bobby" for Best Drama...
...yet Eastwood gets two director nominations, but neither film was nominated for Best Drama.
*scratches head*
HumanTorch, normally I'd be in perfect agreement with you about Braff. He's been under-recognized since Scrubs premiered.
But this year, it really is all about Alec Baldwin. I think people who hate 30 Rock would have to recognize the hysterical work he's doing there.
JRB, I think Emily Blunt's benefitting from the small minds of the HFP. They nominated her for a miniseries acting award, too, which is a common thing with them; I think they forget there are more than 5 actors and actresses from which to choose (see DiCRAPio's two noms).
i do think that DiCaprio's two nominations are really deserved... and i'm glad that they picked Mark Wahlberg with Jack Nicholson....
Alec Baldwin is really good on that show... but i will never get over how many times they have snubbed Zach Braff
Surprised by the lack of Dreamgirls nominatiions in some categories. Two directing nominations for Clint Eastwood? Interesting.
Very happy to see that the Weeds cast is really being singled out! They really do excellent work.
Well, as with a lot of obvious choices (Renee Zelwegger? Really?), I think the HFP shows every year they have a shortlist of favorites.
Not to nitpick on her because she's great, but Mary Louise Parker is one of theirs. She's very deserving of a nomination for Weeds, though.

Yes, there are some OBVIOUS repeaters here who seem to pop up regardless of how well their work was/wasn't.
On another note. HOOORAY for Big Love and Bill Paxton getting nods. Too bad Chloe Sevigny didn't get a mention for her portrayal of the infuriating, devious Nicki.
