The good...
-5 noms for "Dreamgirls"!
-The Best Actress (Drama) category is flawless. I have the exact same lineup.
-Both "Babel" ladies got nominated.
-DiCaprio deserved both nods.
-They remembered Emily Blunt for "Prada".
-They remembered Chewitel Ejiofor.
-They remembered Ben Affleck.

The bad...
-"Flags...Fathers" wasn't bad at all, but Eastwood didn't deserve two nominations.

?...
-Still don't understand Wahlberg's buzz for "The Departed". Oh, well. Good for him.
-Still don't understand Pitt's buzz.

The ugly...
-Zilch for "United 93".
-No Abigail Breslin.
-No Alan Arkin, or any "LMS" actor.
-No Jackie Earle Haley.
-No Catherine O'Hara.
-No Ryan Gosling.

Ah, I missed Bill Paxton. But none of the women from Big Love? Seriously? That is a crying shame.

I wish they wouldn't allow multiple nominations in the same category. Bill Condon was left out of Best Director and could of have one of the Clint Eastwood's nominations.

I was upset that Catherine O'Hara didn't get a nomination for For Your Consideration as she was terrific.

Was sooooo glad to see Little Miss Sunshine get some nominations, but only 1 for Stranger Than Fiction.

Ah well, the same olds are still up there (Granted they do great work, but it would be nice to see a change)

I am glad for Grey's Anatomy!

Sunshine was left out of the Screenplay category and is considered a frontrunner for the Oscar.

Another head-scratcher.

Toni Collete's performance wasn't that good. Steve Carell's was. But I loved the movie! So glad it got nominated.

Some immediate mistakes, imho:

1. No Cate Blanchett for The Good German (which, for me, if without a doubt the best performance by an actress this year)
2. No Catherine O'Hara for For Your Consideration (even if she doesn't get an Oscar nod, she will go down in history as having given one of the most complex comic performance of the decade).
3. Ryan Gosling, Jackie Earle Haley, and Abigail Breslin gave performances this year that are on my short list.
4. Why nominate Bobby?!?!

This was on DEFAMER yesterday:
Matthew Perry, whose trophy might read Best Actor in a Television Drama, but who we all know will really be winning for Outstanding Ability By An Actor To Deliver Straightfaced Dialogue About How In Love He Is With An Adorable, Abundantly Talented Romantic Foil Who Is Neither Adorable Nor Abundantly Talented.

Then they went and nominated Sarah Paulson, the only nom from the cast of STUDIO 60...over Sandra Oh, Chandra Wilson and many other more deserving.

I agree, Sarah Paulson's nomination is a mystery. And Katherine Heigl over Chandra and Sandra? Maybe the GG nominators just have a thing for blondes.

The one who deserved a nom from Studio 60 is Steven Webber.

Oh my god. I must be the ONLY person on the planet who finds Sandra Oh's character so grating that I want to smack her before she opens her mouth to deliver one more overly-smarmy line.
And, as much as I loved Chandra Wilson in Caroline, or Change, I cannot abide her here.

I know that everyone is more concerned about the film nominations but I think there were some serious oversights in television. For example, I think Jean Smart was overlooked for her work on 24.

The best performance of BIG LOVE was Harry Dean Stanton. His best performance and character since Johnny Farragut in WILD AT HEART.

I think the whole "Golden Globes/Precursor to the Oscars" thing to be overrated. The point of the Globes is to have a glitzy TV show with lots of celebrities showing up. Hence no Ryan Gosling...why nominate him when you've got the much more popular Will Smith who will get people watching? Hence BOBBY (Ooh, all those stars!), Zellwegger, etc.
Remember when they nominated Sharon Stone for THE MIGHTY? So she'd show up, right? Madonna Best Actress for EVITA? Same thing. The GG's are kind of a joke...a fun joke, but a joke nonetheless.
Or, best of all, when Pia Zadora's millionare husband not only bought Pia a Best Newcomer nomination but bought her the award as well. Yes, friends: Pia Zadora, Golden Globe winner for BUTTERFLY. Enjoy the trash!!

THANK YOU! Ellen f--king Pompeo? It's the same thing with her, week after week. She doesn't imbue her character with anything special. I can't ever argue with the inclusion of Edie Falco--she's amazing--but Jeanne Tripplehorne should take Pompeo's place in the leading actress category.

I can't find a list for supporting actor/actress for television. Do they not award these categories for television at the Globes? Because Chloe Sevigny, Grace Zabriskie and Harry Dean Stanton all deserve nominations.

YAY Alec Baldwin! And another yay for America Ferrara.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Nominees:
Thomas Haden Church for "Broken Trail" (2006) (mini)
Jeremy Irons for Elizabeth I (2005) (TV)
Justin Kirk for "Weeds" (2005)
Masi Oka for "Heroes" (2006/II)
Jeremy Piven for "Entourage" (2004)

Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television

Nominees:
Emily Blunt for Gideon's Daughter (2005) (TV)
Toni Collette for Tsunami: The Aftermath (2006) (TV)
Katherine Heigl for "Grey's Anatomy" (2005)
Sarah Paulson for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip" (2006)
Elizabeth Perkins for "Weeds" (2005)

I thought they usually threw in more than 5 nominations for these supporting roles, because they include TV Drama, Comedy, Made for TV Movie, and Mini-Series!! If they aren't going to have all 4 categories separate, I wish they'd at least divvy up the Series from the Movies.

GG's are basically like High School Superlatives with a great gift basket. I'm shocked they didn't nominate Sharon Stone, as they give her nominations for crap like The Muse and that one where she had the sick son.

Kathryn Heigl by no Sandra Oh? Just stupid. Izzie's probably the wors charcater on there.

No Calista or Sally Field?

And, someone, please tell me what the hell is so funny about What About Earl?

Hmm, very interesting that the only actor on Lost to receive a nomination was Evangeline. But yay for her. Of course there are others I would have liked to seen recognized, but it's difficult when the Golden globes groups all the supporting actors together. Ah well.

Very pleased for Little Miss Sunshine, Borat, Sasha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell, The Devil Wears Prada and Emily--some great movies in the musical/comedy category this year.

Calista and Sally being left out doesn't bother me, but dissing the women from Big Love is really grating! I liked Brothers and Sisters, disliked it and now like it again. Great episodes over the past two weeks (though I think Nora's semi-embracing of Polly is bull****). Personally I think Griffiths is doing the best work, and I'd like to see how the show progresses. I hope it continues to get better.

I think it sucks that they're combining the supporting actor/actress categories into one big hodge podge! A lot of deserving people will be overlooked this way. I'm glad Piven got a nod, but Kevin Dillon is equally as excellent and it's time his work was recognized. I am sad at the lack of love for Johnny Drama. Heigl is fine in her role, but doesn't deserve her nomination! Sandra Oh is excellent, as is Chandra Bailey.

They've always combined them at the globes.

Interestingly enough, the Olivier Awards for theater in London do the same thing. Seperate categories for the leads, but all supporting actors in one category...including male/female.

Sad to see no cast members from "Law and Order:SVU" on the list. They're all great.

I love watching the Golden Globes every year, but sometimes it does feel like the HFPA is the high school prom comittee of Hollywood.
