There's speculation that McCain may leak his choice for VP hours before Obama's acceptance speech.
At least that's what's being reported by Drudge...so it's to be taken with a a grain of salt.
Do you think he'll do it?
DRUDGE RUMOR
hmmm... lemme see, old man with yellow wooden teeth announces that Mitt Romney is his choice for VP... or superstar Politician, the first african american to lead a political ticket gives an amazing speech in front of a stadium crowd of 75,000 on the 45th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech...
yeah... i have a feeling only FoxNews will care enough for it to "upstage" Obama's historic night.
If what McCain really wants is for absolutely nobody to cover his announcement, then tonights the perfect night!

Unless it's Lieberman I can't imagine this generating the magnitude of press the Obama speech will. Friday is usually the day to dump news and this weekend is a holiday. Most people will be celebrating the last weekend of summer and hopefully going away excited about this man that would be president.
Found online:
"Now, now, the McCain campaign is, you know, cool and with it. They have figured out the new fangled gizmos and will announce their vp decision via telefax."
LOL!

Last night the speculation was Pawlenty, Lieberman or Ebay CEO Meg Whitman. Pawlenty would be a yawn, the other two would generate HUGE news but I think either of those would case ad 3-5 point DROP in MCCain's poll numbers. So I think any of them are A-OK with me, no matter when he announces.
Politico.com is reporting that the McCain campaign will be running an ad tonight in which McCain will be speaking on camera directly to Obama.

I'd bet my eBay stock on Meg Whitman.
(If I had any.)
Though let's all hope it doesn't, Gustav is likely to upstage McCain.

My guru source says Pawlenty. He's usually right.

You know Calvin, I wonder. If McCain were a regular guy I'd say you're right, but he's so opinionated and hot headed I can see him DEMANDING his choice. And I think he's going to want to go with a real shocker.

i just read that MCain is going to make the announcement Friday morning. But if you want to be the first to know, you can sign up with his campaign and they will notify you immediately by telegram.
Meg Tilly!
"Gustav is likely to upstage McCain." From Maddow's beautiful lips to your keyboard.
Tomorrow is McCain's birthday and the start of anniversary of Katrina. Which Rachel is quick to point out McCain spent celebrating cake and all with Bush while people were drowning. Obama's speech will certainly touch on the division in this country something Katrina made evident to everyone that lives here.
McCain can announce all he wants tomorrow but like every move in his campaign thus far it will be misguided one.
It's gonna be Pawlenty unless they're trying to trick us. He's had his schedule cleared for a couple of days and he's canceled all interviews. Biden's gonna eat him for breakfast.
I'm kinda hoping it leaks during Obama's speech. I'll be watching MSNBC and Olbermann sure as heck won't be switching over.
CBS states it will be Pawlenty . If so, this puts Minnesota in play for Mc Cain.
We shall see.
Is there someone in this race besides Obama and Biden?
Oh yeah. The old white-haired dude.
We all get to be white haired someday.
Great way to judge a candidate - on the color of his hair.
His ad where he speaks directly to Obama is extremely gracious and nice.
"We all get to be white haired someday."
Funny...that never happened to Ronald Reagan, go figure.
The absolute best thing about watching the convention on C-SPAN, is being able to see the god-awful dancing done by the conventioneers!
Unless his pick is Hilary, Gramps isn't going to upstage any one.
