I don't think the line from GWTW is the most famous anymore... maybe 20 years ago? Not today... I bet you most people from my generation (including myself) wouldn't know what that line is from. I vote for "Luke, I am your father" or "There's no place like home."
or of course, "You go, Glen Coco!"
The idea that anyone old enough to speak wouldn't be able to identify "Frankly...", well, frankly makes me feel a little ill.
With all due respect, Parks, your generation isn't the be all and end all, nor is it the bulk of our population right now. And regardless of what the most popular line of all time is, was or will be, it is interesting to note that in this thread at least, "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn" is pretty much the leading contender.
Famous?
I'll also throw in:
"Bond. James Bond."
"You talking to ME?"
"Make my day"
....but, I think that the GWTW quote is probably THE most famous.
My first thought was "Luke, I am your father."
When I read the thread title, my mind immediatly went to Casablanca. Not only are there so many famous lines, I knew them all years before I actually saw the movie.
"Here's looking at you, kid"
"We'll always have Paris"
"This could be the start of a beautiful friendship"
And, of course the most famous misquoted line "Play it again, Sam."
And also, I'm 20 and I can't believe some people my age don't know these lines or the other lines people have mentioned in the thread

I just asked my brother, who is 25, and he didn't know what the line was from either. I think "There's no place like home" is more famous than the GWTW line--even little children know the Wizard of Oz line, along with adults.
I, personally, think "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." would be the most famous and memorable line from The Wizard of Oz. Not "There's no place like home." Please.
I always remember the line from Forrest Gump: "Mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
"Who ordered the pizza with extra meat?"

Remember, "There's no place like home" was a line from a song long before it was used in Wizard of Oz.
"I'm mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore!!"

A film I could watch thousands of times.
As apropos today (more so, perhaps) than anything current.
IMHO, brilliant.

Jon-
Most people haven't head the song, but they've seen Wizard of Oz.
I'd also like to point out that in the ultra-rich Gossip Girl style neighborhoods, they probably won't know the classics, but that is such a MINOR part of our population (and of the younger population at that), that I don't feel it's a fair statement.
I'll ask around campus tomorrow...

"Frankly..." was the first thing that popped into my head, but that might just be because I'm too familiar with all of those published lists that have already ranked movie lines according to various criteria. It just seems like the *right* answer. I'm 24, by the way.

"What we have here is a failure to communicate"
"We're gonna need a bigger boat"
rhett's wins, but some runner ups might be:
"i'm walkin' here!"
"that'll be the day." c'mon, buddy holly even wrote a damn song about it!
"why don't you come up sometime and see me?"
"you know how to whistle, don't you, steve? you just put your lips together and...blow."
I asked a few of my high school friends. This is what I got.
"Run Forrest, run"
"I am your father"
"Bond, James Bond"
And none of them agreed with me when I said it should be "Frankly...."
ARGH my generation.
I kind of skimmed so maybe I missed it, but I can't believe no one has mentioned "Here's lookin at you kid" from Casablanca.
yes, you did miss it.
why not next time just say, "i don't feel like reading this whole thread, 'cuz readin's hard, y'all. so i'm just gonna assume that no one made this point that i am going to make. now if i'm wrong, don't anyone be mean and point out that this makes me look like a moron, k?"
Get off your high horses!
I'm really sick of the older gentlemen off BWW looking down your very long noses at us young folk.
I'm partial to "They call me MISTER TIBBS," but I'm not sure it's the most famous movie line.
I'm going to go with, "I'll never let go, Jack" for the most famous.

if you have a problem with what people off this site are doing, perhaps you should take it up with them there.
that's your most famous line? that's sad.
Did I have to mention where it's from? No.
Thank you.
i googled it. then laughed hysterically.

Because I skimmed it, and missed it. Honest mistake.
