Actually doodle, it's broccoli rabe....they say it's healthier than flowers when the medalist eat them.
It's funny because I remember Elvis' programs to be somewhat one-note and boring. Always the same old Samurai schtick. It's about the whole package.
Doodle, it looks like the "broccoli" they're hand out are green orchids (or that's what it looks like to me).
Guess what one of my all-time fave skaters, Russia's Maria Butyrskaya, is up to?

Catching Up with Maria Butyrskaya
I think that was absolutely amazing that the Japanese skater with the broken lace picked up as if nothing happened. Kudos to him. And what a beautiful smile on his face when it was done. Absolutely adorable.
Agree!
Ice Skating is one of the few places where they have the Medal ceremony at the venue, and immediately following the competition. For most other events, they have the 'Flower Ceremony' (aka broccoli!) and then have the public Medal ceremony in a different venue the next day. They SAY it's because they want to make it possible for more of the public to see the medals being given out. But, I miss the thrill of hearing the National Anthem and having the medal awarded immediately following the competition when emotions are still riding high.
I don't know why that "broccoli bouquet" is the flower of choice this year... perhaps it's something native to Canada?
Was she the one who skated to "Dance 10;Looks Three" ?
June Strandberg of Just Beginnings in Surrey, B.C. and Margitta Schulz of Margitta’s Flowers in North Vancouver are the two florists who were awarded the contract in 2008 to create the 1,800 bouquets required for the Olympics. The florists were part of the design process and pitched 23 sample bouquets to the "Vancouver Olympic Committee (VANOC) panel. The final selection contains flowers that are grown in B.C. and Canada, but cannot be sourced from the natural outdoors in February. The predominately green bouquets contain eye-catching green hypericum berries, delicate green spider mums and broad leaf greens. The foliage consists of leatherleaf fern, loops of monkey grass and aspidistra leaves. A simple royal blue ribbon is hand tied around each bouquet and the handles are also wrapped in recycled paper."
Everything You've Ever Wanted To Know About The Olympic Flower Bouquet 2010
The color palatte of the Vancouver games is so pretty with the green and blue banners everywhere. I guess they focused more on the green with the bouquet, and wrapped a ribbon of blue (although I haven't been able to see the ribbon).
I agree!
And I really want to visit Vancouver now!
Did you see my pictures? It was beautiful!
They are!
Addy's pictures are wonderful and I loved the "special" one I got via text!
"The whole 'quad' remark is also completely steeped in homophobia'
I see the reverse happening all over this thread!
Boobs, I totally thought you were kidding about that shirt! LOL, you really have that!
Addy, I just went and looked at your pictures! They're FABULOUS! Did you give Apolo Ohno my phone number?
Yeah everyone!
Cut out all of this heterophobia!
If you dont think Plushenko's a god on the ice, and sexy off the ice, you hate all heteros.
Sheesh...what an assholish thing to type.
Thanks for the info Addy! I was going to edit it to broccolini, but glad to know the truth. Anyway, they are ugly.

"Boobs, I totally thought you were kidding about that shirt! LOL, you really have that!"
No Janey...I really do own that T-shirt. Don't you know me by now...I mean you know where I grew up...lol
Blockhead, someone posted that article a few pages ago I think.
Thanks for that link, erin...very interesting!
And addy's pics ARE great...and I'm so jealous she was there!
uncageg,
Plushenko was beaten not by artistry but by tech score. Evan and Plushenko scored the same in artistry. But Plushenko's tech base value is only 0.9 higher than Evan. And the execution score, because he was not solid in a couple of his jump , he did not earn as much as Evan who land every single jump clean. Evan beat him in technique score.
I didn't see Evan's solo interview on Today this morning but...Do the coaches REALLY get separate Olympic Medals (gold, silver and bronze)? Also is it in all Sports...not just figure skating?
If so, then that is not only great for Frank Carroll, but Bin Yao the Chinese Pair coach...which that makes me think "Does China have ANOTHER Pair team besides those 3?"
Elvis does have a point (in a way)...they used to do 3 axel-3 toe combinations in the short program and now we aren't really seeing that.
I do give him credit for saying that Johnny Weir deserved to be above his countryman Patrick Chan.
And speaking of Patrick Chan...I posted something like this on a youtube video and everyone said NO...but does anyone think that something is wrong with one of his eyes? Like it goes to the edge of the eye or something.
Also, when Oda's skate lace broke who else had memories of a certain someone who had that problem at the Olympics saying "It's not gonna hold me!"
