I can't believe those makeup people didn't win for making Glenn Close look like a woman playing a man. Instead of just looking like a man.
SPOILER ALERT.
Diddy, getting outta the car! omfg..
What's that other guy's job title - Executive Asst.Lint Picker ?

Thoughts on the show so far
* Billy Crystal is a great host.
* Emma Stone was a terrific presenter
* Very happy for Octavia Spencer and the song from 'The Muppets' winning.
* Cameron Diaz looks great for the first time in a while.
* No major surprises so far yet.
Does Angelina Jolie have a parastic twin attached somewhere we can't see?

We had an upset, since Viola was expected to win, for the first time in a while. I'm very happy for Meryl. She's a class act and she was brilliant in the film. I'm glad that she has finally gotten some recognition from the Academy Awards after such a long time.

Meryl wasn't an upset? Everybody thought it was a close race between her and Viola.

^ I thought it was considered an upset since Viola was expected to win.
Viola would have only been the second African American actress to win a leading Oscar. While times have changed, this might have played into it for some, although that's depressing to think about.
I really think the reason is that her part wasn't big enough. From the start of the campaign to get her nominated, I thought she was "supporting." This is an ensemble movie. Although putting her up "for consideration" as a lead in an ensemble film is not without precedence. Both David Niven and Nicole Kidman won leading Oscars for smaller ensemble roles. Niven's is the shortest performance (around 15 minutes of screen time). Nicole's can't be more than 30 minutes of screen time.
I'm sure the idea had something to do with clearing the way for Octavia Spencer, too. It would have been pretty tough having both Davis and Spencer competing against each other, whether or not Chastain would have still been in the mix.
It's all a big game of chess. Meryl had a star vehicle role and played the hell out of it. Her biggest competition was a powerful performance by Davis in an ensemble film.
And so it goes.
I agree-Streep was the upset of the night (a good one) and Octavia's role was bigger than Viola's. Perhaps she should have been up for leading rather than supporting.
How long will it be before Jim Rash wears Angelina's dress on Community?
Once I realized that Octavia was a lock, I figured the big prize would go to Meryl.
I hadn't quite realized it was 30 years since her last Oscar, though!
Why was Jolie airing out her cooch? She looks like an idiot in every picture. I'm so glad that guy who won when she presented made fun of her.
That was what he was doing, right!? I sort of couldn't believe it.
Yeah, the guys posing like Angelina "Look, my dress has a slit" Jolie during their speech was one of the funniest moments of the night.
I actually had a nominee marathon weekend watching The Help, The Descendants, Paradise Lost 3, My Week With Marilyn, The Iron Lady and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I was sort of in the Viola Davis camp until I watched Iron Lady. I thought it was a pretty decent film, but Streep was incredible. The film won the two Oscars it absolutely deserved. But if anything, I was shocked at how many technical awards Hugo won. I really didn't get that. Art Direction was the only award for Hugo that made sense to me.
I love me some Viola Davis, but Streep truly deserved that award. Actually, I think she's deserved to win for a few of her other nominated performances, especially "Ironweed".
I also think Bejo deserved to win, but happy for Spencer.
Take a gander at Jolie's pics on the red carpet...it's hilarious! WTF is wrong with her?
I would have given it to Bejo, as well.
My best-dressed of the night was easily Chastain. Knocked me out. She's gorgeous in a classic Hollywood way.
Well I thought Jolie looked amazing and everyone who doesn't think so is just wrong and that is an undeniable fact that can not be disputed since it is real because I have said so.
WHAT I LIKED:
Penelope Cruz: PERFECT.
Rooney Mara: Hollywood vintage...love it.
Milla Jovovich: Gorgeous.
Octavia Spencer: Beautiful. Accentuates her curves.
Jessica Chastain: Stunning.
Berenice Bejo: Elegant, simple, understated, so UN-Oscarlike. Lovely. (Although I liked her hairstyle, I did NOT like it from the front.)
YUK
Michelle Wiliams: Looks like she works at a diner. (A very posh diner, but...)
Angelina Jolie: Bad contrast.
Gwyneth Paltrow: She is way too skinny for that dress.
Cameron Diaz: The dress isn't bad; it's just not right for her figure. And the color's no good.
Tina Fey: Catholic School uniform color.
Sandra Bullock: Just not right for her.
Natalie Portman: Off the rack at JC Penney. (Although now I am a huge fan of Penney's!)
Meryl Streep: Is that a costume left over from the silent version of "Samson and Delilah"? Nothing is right for her with this dress, except the neckline.
JLo: Looks like a lampshade.
Kristen Wiig: Colorless color...I hate it.
Maya Rudolph: She borrowed the sheath they cover statues in Catholic churches during Lent.
Rose Byrne: Too S&M.
Glenn Close: Looks like a 2004 Ford Taurus.
Jolie looked like Christian Bale in "The Machinist," if the machinist were a cross-dresser.
Reg, everything about Jolie just seemed "thrown together," didn't it? Her hair, makeup, dress...none of it really went together. Of course, she has six kids. I only have two and I NEVER look as good as she did last night (and never WILL)!
re: Jolie --- call me crazy, but if your arms are thinner than the strands of your hair, there's a problem.
I'm surprised they could fit a tattoo on there. Then again Dixon Ticonderoga works miracles on a Number Two.
