Did anyone else watch the extraordinary movie version of HELLO, DOLLY! showing on Ovation last night? I watched a titch of it (I own it after all), but MY GOD that performance by Streisand.
Witty, warm, full of life! And those numbers have never sounded better.

Posted: 11/8/12 at 11:26amThe film is BEAUTIFUL. I think it ranks right up there with WEST SIDE STORY as one of the greatest adaptations ever made.

When she scats with Louis Armstrong? Movie heaven.
I love Barbra scats.

"Barbra Scats is my favorite adult film."
Her nails did get in the way, though...

I loved the sepia tones used in it.
It was shot in sepia tones, right?

Wow. 14 minutes of Barbra from 1969, performing a medley of songs from Hello, Dolly.

This REALLY proves that Streisand was the greatest of all the Dolly Levis.

Not to mention that it was about effing time they had a Jewish Dolly! Her name is Levi, for craps sake!

Well, it arrived three days late, but this thread is a Halloween bag of delicious candy treats that seems genuinely bottomless.

Her scenes with Walter Matthau are so convincing...I am SURE they were having an affair. How else could an actress so perfectly capture the depth and soulfulness of Dolly Levi? There will never be another Dolly for me.
I wish Babs would do the remake of Song of Bernadette already. How much longer do we have to wait?

Truly- only Richard Gere and Jodie Fisher came close to matching their sizzling on-screen chemistry.
