Just be open and have fun. i met a lot of cool people on my cruise by joining the games and dancing at the club. lots of sunscreen, books, music and anything else. exploring the ship is fun too. i found awesome places to just relax. oh and if there are a lot of kids on the ship, you probably won't see the pool. and be careful if its windy. it can really blow you around out there. have a great trip!!
I have never been on a cruise, but I must refer you to David Foster Wallace's essay on the subject, "A Supposedly Fun Thing I Will Never Do Again", from the book of the same name.

OMG- cruises are better than an orgasm...*rolls eyes*
Can you imagaine a 10 day org....NEVERMIND! LOL
I'm 20 years old and have been on 12 cruises and all were terrific! My favorite cruise line is Princess followed by Royal Caribbean.
And whoever said don't go on Carnival, was correct...they are horrible to all ends of extreme.
Disney Cruise! :)
It's awesome. They have this enormous theatre they have shows in and another "movie" theatre that shows Disney movies (of course). It's sort of expensive, but it's all inclusive and it's a great experience.

I went on a cruise when I was 5, but I don't remember much about it.
But next year, the festival my school choir is attending is on a cruise to the Bahamas.
we went on our first one two years ago. We were bored. We don't drink, and we can lay out in the sun all year long where we live, so we were not impressed with cruising as all anyone did was drink and lay out in the sun.
However, I would, I am sure love a Danube cruise, Fjords of Norway, or Alaska cruise........
I've been on 3 cruises..one when I was 6. The other before my Bat Mitzvah, and another the year after.
I enjoy them, but I'd like to go somewhere besides Mexico...
My tip is to get involved with all the activities that your cruise provides. If you do the activities, you get to meet people, learn a new skill, and it's better than just sitting around waiting for the next port.
Well my cruises were all Windjammer Barefoot's which a bro in law described accurately as sumer camp for grown ups. It was good, mostly clean, mildly unwholesome fun of a silly kind. The physical beauty of being @ sea is beyond my poor powers to describe. I think it is somewhat diminished on the large boats but i always came back rejuvenated. Be careful re the booze. Some lines DO care.($$$$)
The boze is easy to sneak on. And once on the ship no one cares ( keep it in the room).
Well actually some do care & CAN confiscate it too. ( There is a reason the Captain is refered to as the Master of the Vessel) This has become an issue esp w passengers who get drunk and aggressive. U can cut em off @ the bar but if they have their own stash...
And as far as "romance"- be extra careful lots of the crew look on the passengers as part of their remuneration! ( OY the stories I could tell...)
I've only been on one, and we had a blast. It was a short 3-day cruise, Seattle to Vancouver to Victoria back to Seattle. It was awesome... sleep in this hotel, eat good food, gamble... and you wake up in a different city every day. We didn't have any 'at-sea' days, but I had a great time. Totally want to do it again.
I guess the big question here is:
Who here has gone on a cruise that they have paid for them selves.
I'm sure these seem fun for children, and older adults, but if you're not either of those, it can be a bore.
And, yes, on the cruise I took, the entertainment SUCKED. Not just my opinion, but some of the older folks who ate at our table said they wanted to walk out during the show, but they didn't want us to think them rude. We said, "We would have been right behind you."
I met a couple of the performers on the ship later and they were also miserable about their jobs. So it showed.

The only cruises Ive taken have been run by Atlantis Travel , a travel agency which books entire cruise ships for gays, and then brings on their own entertainment to supplement the cruise lines regular entetainment. In addition the entire vacation , including port stops, is geared to the gay lifestyle. Obviously there are no children on the ship and people I've spoken with who' ve taken other cruises say thats sometimes a problem. The downside:price. You wont find a deal on such a specialized vacation.
That was my thought, IF I ever take another cruise, is to go gay.
Nothing worse than the adult jacuzzi filled with screraming kids.
I love cruises - I've been on many of them.
The cruise I went on had a "no kids" pool/jacuzzi area...
