I Really Can't Wait. This looks like it'll be one of the big Oscar contenders next year.

Oprah's Ebonics always sound so "put on". How ironic.

I hope it's wonderful. I hope it is such a big hit that some cable channel re-runs Backstairs at the White House.
And John I feel the same way about Meryl Streep. It's so put on. Everyone knows what she sounds like. How dare she try to sound like an Englishwoman or a Polish Immigrant? So Ironic.
Well, of course it's going to win Best Picture!
Everyone in the Academy is in this movie, and it's a Weinstein production.
Game. Set. Match.
Well I think Oprah looks fantastic in this. And since she was "robbed" of an Oscar before, I'm hoping she can make up for it in this.
I agree about Oprah looking terrific in this.
But I still liked Margaret Avery better than Oprah in The Color Purple.
I actually am, too.
Jane Fonda as Nancy Reagan looks great. So does James Marsden as JFK and Melissa Leo as Mamie Eisenhower.
The cast is really incredible. I happen to think Lee Daniels is an excellent director. I see Maria Carey is in the cast again as well. Maybe she's his good-luck charm.
Alex Pettyfer ... Thomas Westfall
John Cusack ... Richard Nixon
Robin Williams ... Dwight Eisenhower
Alan Rickman ... Ronald Reagan
James Marsden ... John F. Kennedy
Forest Whitaker ... Cecil Gaines
Liev Schreiber ... Lyndon B. Johnson
Terrence Howard ... Howard
Minka Kelly ... Jackie Kennedy
Lenny Kravitz ... James Holloway
Cuba Gooding Jr. ... Carter Wilson
Jesse Williams ... Rev. James Lawson
Jane Fonda ... Nancy Reagan
Melissa Leo ... Mamie Eisenhower
Vanessa Redgrave ... Annabeth Westfall
David Oyelowo ... Louis Gaines
Nelsan Ellis ... Martin Luther King Jr.
Mariah Carey ... Hattie Pearl
Oprah Winfrey ... Gloria Gaines
Yes, she was.
The cast is top notch that is for sure! Side note: Oprah technically does have an Oscar.

Yeah, that's one of the best casts assembled for a film in many many years.
And as far as THE COLOR PURPLE goes, every frame of hat film and every performance is the definition of perfection. So I really can't say I wish one person would have won over the other. I do think the Academy should give the film an "Apology Oscar" for getting it so so so so so wrong in '85.
I agree, Avery was the best supporting actress in '85.
That looks amazing. Any word on a release date?
October 18. Just in time for Halloween.

I can't wait for the scene where Forrest Whitaker gets stung by a jellyfish and Jane Fonda pees on him.
I read that they cut that scene so they could include Vanessa Redgrave's bukakke on the plantation.

Just a trailer, and all that, but it just looks like a batch of cliches, the embodiment of not my cup of tea. And Robin Williams as Ike, continuing the trend of miscasting comedians as Presidents. With all the pretty pictures and family bonding and family conflicts and tearful tearfulness, you just know that someone will be cured of a stammer before the movie ends.
I'll pass. More than that -- I'll AVOID.
This seems reminiscent of Backstairs at the White House, a miniseries from the late 70s.
I'm up for it ... even though I get what Roscoe is saying.
It looks a bit like Downton Abbey at the White House Meets Mississippi Burning with Disney's Hall Of the Presidents.
When it comes to comedians, Robin Williams can be serious and dramatic almost as deftly. I'm not sure if he's miscast as Ike, but I don't think it's another example of miscasting comedians as Presidents.
I think it's going to be interesting between this Oscar bait ensemble piece and the other - August: Osage County.
Jordan as far as I recall they have changed the date to August 16th. I've been looking forward to this for awhile now.
I believe the date was pushed up to 8/16.
Moving it from awards season to the dumping grounds of late summer is worrisome.
"Just a trailer, and all that, but it just looks like a batch of cliches"
Well it is a Lee Daniels movie.
