oh this should be interesting!

Jeez, I wonder who's gonna play Maleficent? Duh.
Maleficent is evil, not stupid...
100 Bucks says this project was catered for Helena Bonham Carter.(although Lisa Marie would be perfect for the role)
No, Johnny Depp of course!
Yes, SLEEPING BEAUTY is flawed but it is still Disney's most impressive and gorgeous film to date and, obviously, my favorite. Maleficent is also my all-time favorite Disney character so this is exceptionally exciting for me. I'm glad Burton is on board with this but I pray he doesn't try to humanize her like that other green witch was. Maleficent is pure evil from top to bottom and if done that way, this could be amazing.
I'm 100% with you on this, Jordan.
SLEEPING BEAUTY: Best Disney Villain & Best Disney Animation.
Can't wait!
P
Neat-o. Are we thinking Helena will be filling this role?
I am surprised at my own reaction to this....what with Mel being in the top 2 most bad ass Disney villains and my love for MOST things by Burton...But I am kind of afraid of them tarnishing her reputation as the most evil of evils. If they give her any kind of a heart...I think mine might shatter.

Ew. From SWEENEY TODD to retreading Maleficent? Burton's running for cover. One never knows, I guess, but this really just doesn't seem worth the trouble.
I don't think you could giver her heart, but perhaps we could understand her motives better.
I'm still waiting for the Jerry Bruckheimer/Walt Disney Production of Michael Bay's "CHERNABOG" starring Jack Black. Hey, don't laugh. IT COULD HAPPEN! Don't believe me? Check this out

I would love to hear Tim Burton do a new Pee Wee Herman movie.
BraodwayBenny, then be ready to glue the pieces back together 'cause:
"Much like the musical 'Wicked' which retold L. Frank Baum's classic story from the perspective of the Wicked Witch of the West, Burton's film will apparently tell 'Beauty' from Maleficent's point of view."
Her motives don't matter. The minute she has a real motive it humanizes her and makes her infinitely less evil. The same thing happened with Rob Zombie's Halloween. Giving Michael Meyers a past and making him a real person took all the horror away from him.
What, no "THEY RIPPED OFF WICKED!!!!" cries from the pee-nut gallery?
And I think Tilda Swinton should play Malficent.
Borstal, Tilda would be my first choice as well.
And the WICKED kids have never seen SLEEPING BEAUTY. The first Disney they ever saw was The Emperor's New Groove. Anything before that is too old fashioned for them.
Well if Burton REALLY wants to surprise us, Carter and Depp won't show up anywhere in this project.
I doubt that though.
I'd like to see Depp as Flora, Fauna & Merryweather.
I'm just trying to figure out how much story they could eke out of this. She was a fairy, spurned, turns jealous, lets herself stew for 16 years....with Wizard of Oz we knew NOTHING of the witch pre-Dorothy, so there was a lot of room for imagining a past. I just don't see it here unless the story just has nothing to do with Sleeping Beauty.
It kinda reminds me of the book Fairest of All
Fairest of All: A Tale of the Wicked Queen by Serena Valentino
Two words: Glenn Close.
Oooh! I can see that!
My God, there are SO many actresses that could do this brilliantly. At the top of my list would be Mrs. Blanchett.
Tilda or Cate would make me run to the theatre.
Susan Sarandon or will that be too close to her Enchanted character?
If not HBC, other past actresses he worked with I could see are Michelle Pfeiffer or even Anne Hathaway if Alice turns out well. I would love to see Anne as a villain.
