Sorry for the PA-Dutch speak.
I read BBM would get eleven in two places, including OscarWatch. I think there may be fewer. I now wonder if Jake might not make it, But whatever, right? With the new backlash fervor pouring in (you should read the Austrailian press onlline: "LITTLE HOPE ON THE PRAIRIE FOR HEATH..."), there may be room for a dark or horse, or two, by March 5. Or not.
I do think the SAG "shut out" might be overinterpreted. After all, last year SIDEWAYS won the ensemble, and no one really thought it had a chance over BABY. But BABY also had this "over-hyped" vibe by late January. Right here at this board.

I didn't see Palindromes. Good movie or just a good performance?
I loved it. Not to everyone's taste, tho. Barkin was amazing!
I got it comin from netflix any day now, Borstal--I've read great things about Barkin and I love Todd.
Auggie, I think Jake will get in there and will win, proving all the press Heath has received rather ironic. For some reason, maybe it was here, but I recall reading an article saying that the bottom always gets nominated. :)
Well, then you better start getting some film work!
Unfortunately, all my offers are from dickwadd.com...
I would love for Joan Allen to get a nod for "Upside of Anger. It will never happen.. but she is so deserving of it.
DAME, I couldn't agree more.
Don't give up, DAME, Joan is VERY popular with the Academy, with three noms...I think she'll get in!
Matt Dillon for Crash. True he got a SAG nom, but not so sure about Oscar, but Hoping he will
Also Terrence Howard for Crash.
I would like to add the mom from Transamerica. Brilliant!
I'll just throw this one out there: Mickey Rourke. One of the most acclaimed and extraordinary performances of 2005, and he's won a handful of awards.
i aggree with JRB. Transamerica Felicity Huffman needs to be recognized and I was so dissappointed when she didn't win in the SAGs
Well, I meant the actress playing her mom.
Felicity WILL be nominated tomorrow---or I'll eat my damn TV!
broadway86, what film was Mickey Rourke in?
I think 11 is an unreasonable prediction for the number of nominations BROKEBACK will get. Usually only big-budget films can garner that many because they can rake in the tech nods. I'd say it'll get as many as a film like AMERICAN BEAUTY (
.
Long shots? I'm just going to say it right here: Peter Jackson for KING KONG.
Brokeback will likely get noms for:
Picture
Director
Screenplay
Actor
Supp Actor
Supp Actress
Score
Song
Editing
Cinematography
So, I predict 10.
I'm putting in a final hour long shot karma push for:
Best Supporting Actress: Thandie Newton, Crash
And the double nomination of Terrance Howard for both Hustle & Flow and Crash.
I also think that at this point, it isn't a long shot for Crash to be nominated for Best Picture. In fact, I'd be suprised if it isn't.
touchme---You should be very happy! Two of your "long shots" noted got in:
Crash for Best Pic, and Knightley for Best Actress.
(I was pretty confident she would get in, though.)
Two of mine got in too: Howard and McDormand! And of course, Woody got his nom...
Thoroughly undeserved, but he got it.
Tell me...was Matt Dillon's nomination deserved?
I didn't expect it.
Matt's was deserved because it was seen a a comeback for him in a unexpected performance. His cast mates could all have equally warranted a nomination--Thandie Newton, Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, and Terrence Howard.
Well, what do you know? I predicted BROKEBACK's nomination tally exactly.
