bythesword...it all boils down to the gullibility factor...
Right. I'm apparently gullible because I'm a Catholic and some religious officials use the money to make gold statues. Of course. How could I have missed that in all my years of religious schooling? You don't have to believe in it, but just because someone else does doesn't mean he or she is gullible.
Jesus and God are my homeboys.
So yes, I do believe in God.
Jai- everyone should be your homeboy, you're awesome.
Christine is my homegirl . *kisses*
I guess it's just something I'll never understand. I don't understand how people can believe in this.

God is definitely a part of our lives. or should I say we are all part of God's life This idea that God made someg things and not others is absurd and the Devil is just a way of blaming someone outside for the evil that ist idone by men - often in the name of Jesus or God or Allah. We need to grow up and accept that we should be nice to each other or we'll all go up in smoke.
I definetely believe in God and have found a lot of comfort and guidance from his Presence. But I do have a lot of issues with all organised religions, who twist the word of the Lord in any way it suits them !
And i definetely respect every person's belief, whether it agrees with me or not!

"Are you down with G-O-D?"
Seriously? Yes, I do believe in God, though I don't think that I believe in any certain God as illustrated in a holy book. I've been raised in family that surely has faith, but I could never connect with the Church, as I couldn't help but feel bullied by oppressive teachings and threats.
Personally, I believe that it is the prerogative of each person to define his own God and to live by that God, which is really more a state of being or thinking than a huge, metaphysical figure. I don't like knowing that religious organizations try to convert people into thinking as a group; it just seems vain to me, to try and define a set way of thought and behaviour for everyone, since people aren't supposed to be the same, anyway.
Just my two cents.
Thank you Snaps...that is exactly how it should be.
We should all be free to make our own decisions in what we believe in, rather than have something or someone tell us what to believe in.
I grew up Christian, in one of those small Christian churches, and for years I believed that if you wear a cross around your neck, you're going to hell, or that if you said swear words, like sh*t or f*ck, you're going to hell, or if you drank alcohol or smoked, you were going to hell. Or that if you were any other religion besides "Christian" (like Catholic, Baptist, etc.) you were going to hell.
It wasn't until I grew up and started living life, that i realised my church, just like many other churches who have absurd rules is nothing but B.S. These rules, just like the Bible, were created by man. I forgot who said it, but one of my favorite qoutes is "God didn't make Man. Man made God."
Since the beginning of time, people have had things to believe in, and those people in the beginning of time, did not have a God to believe in, so they created one, just like the Greeks and Romans who developed their Mythological stories on how everything was created.
I believe in something, but I'm not going to go as far as assuming what that something is, because truthfully, the "God" that is out there, is more complex than any human could even fathom.
I believe in G-d. I don't know why but I do. I guess it's just very comforting to have something to believe in.

Um, I don't really know. I guess I kind of WANT to, but I don't really, if that makes any sense.
I do not believe in god or religion. Too many of the worlds most horrible events, since the beginning of time, were set in motion in god's name and for religious purposes.
but that's religion, Baddadnpa, not necessarily God - to my mind there is a huge difference in what I believe God to be and what my religion tells me He is... I knew many people who hid behind their religion to do some pretty awful things, and I don't believe that their actions would be condoned by the God that I believe in.
On the trivial side, why is it that there are quotes around God, but not about Satan?
The Holy Wars...anyone who did not believe in God was put to death. Apparently, they weren't learning the correct lessons God was teaching them...Oh, but wait, didn't God tell Moses and Abraham to do such things? Hmmm, according to my Leviticus, he sure did!
To elaborate on my original thought, as that quote pretty much sums up my thoughts:
I honestly am puzzled by anyone who can believe firmly in what is written in the Bible, or any religious book. These are stories that were passed down decades, no, probably centuries before the were even put in writing. They were bound to change, as it is human nature to embellish any story. I firmly believe that what is written about in the Bible is a myth. Wasn't it nice and convenient that Jesus existed back when there was no technological means of keeping proof of his existence (as the Messiah...of course I believe the man existed)? I can't have faith in something that is so...not logical.
As far as God himself, I don't know. Much of the time, I don't believe. When I see something horrible happen to a good person, or something like the tsunami last year, I find it hard to believe that God would allow such a thing to happen. The overall idea of it simply does not make sense to me.
Though sometimes I see things happen to myself or someone else, and I wonder how it could happen without some force helping me out. It's kind of like I feel a connection to something, but I'm not sure what, and it's certainly not what I read in the Bible. Hence "I don't believe in God, but she talks to me all the time." I think that says so much. It seems to be the way many people feel about God.

Thank you, Bythesword. for your intelligence. don't bother arguing with the people who have their ridiculous predisposed ideas about Catholocism though. the ignorance will override.

bgirl107 - I really believe that viewed through the filter of what is natural, the things that take place on this planet are perfectly understandable. It is only when viewed with the overriding perspective of human emotion that things get dicey.
Aboriginal thinking teaches that the human emotional response is what is special and sacred to this particular physical experience. I think it's sad that the emotion so many are held captive by - and indeed, what fuels so much of religion and mythology - is fear.

Munk, I don't understand how folks can down 14 pounds of steak in one meal in the name of the Atkins Diet and call it healthy. We all see mystery in different things.
Seriously, though, I believe in God.

Yes, I do for some reasons but it really depends on what your def. of 'God' is because everyone's is different.
