does any one have any suggestions for thanking people in your bio that don't sound so generic and phony? I'd like to thank our director but, "Thanks to so-and-so for being such and amazing director" just sounds so stupid. or is thanking people in one's bio lame now? any ideas?

DON'T THANK GOD/JESUS/MOSES/MUHAMMAD?BUDDA/SHIVA etc
What's wrong with that? I say thank whomever you want.

My last bio said:
Derric would like to thank his mother for understanding what he is trying to do: achieve his dreams.
My current bio simply thanks my family and friends.

My college edited all of our bios, making them incredibly generic. I made mine witty, and then made it bland. I was not too pleased.
because (IMO) it's tacky and (IMO) unprofessional

I say, "love and thanks to family and friends." For a director... I'm not sure how to do it not like you said it.
in my bio it was "jen would like to thank Mrs N for her support and the opportunity to be part of the musical, also all the kids at MLCDS for their fun times."

I always like to put: And (insert name) shouldn't have to thank (insert recipient name) because they should know how great they have done.
People seem to enjoy it. Also, don't be afraid to thank people, if people think it's lame they can always read someone elses bio.
i have never had a bio where i dont thank my best friend jenna. and i always just put a bible verse reference (Jer. 29:11) at the end. b/c then im not preaching to the audience but also giving props to God.
count it God!
Judging a performer by their bio is petty and stupid. There's no such thing as a "professional" or "unprofessional" bio. I'll save my judgement on a performer's professionalism by what I see on the stage, and I don't care whether they thank grandma or the lunch ladies.
Furthermore, in your bio, the audience gets to meet you and get to know a bit about you before they see you on stage. If your religion is important to you, then thanking [whomever you worship] is perfectly acceptable.
I agree Matt. Thank whoever the **** you want.
I my bios, space permitting, I always thank "my family for their support and encouragement," the production staff "for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this amazing production," and whoever else I decide to thank, usually a friend or two who did something to deserve it.
What I think is unprofessional and tacky is including inside jokes in th bio. Sure it will be funny for maybe three people maximum, but it leaves the REST of the audience scratching their heads.
I have a friend who often just writes these wild, enitrely made-up bios.
He just did the doormat in Beauty and the Beast, and wrote his bio about studying gymnastics at this prestigious school in China. After the show, all kinds of people would come up to him and ask him to tell about his time in China. lol.
In my last bio, I put:
Emily is 13 years old and in the eighth grade at U-School. She has grown up listening to Rodgers and Hammerstein's music and was happy to be a part of Grand Night. She was meant to be in the light booth, but through many changes in cast, Emily got to be in the show. This is her first "named" performance in a show but her other credits include chorus roles in "The Music Man" and "Cinderella." Emily also ran a spotlight in the FLCT's production of "Fiddler on the Roof." A true theatre person, Emily loves to listen to Broadway shows, especially "Rent," "The Producers," "The Who's Tommy," and, of course, "A Grand Night for Singing!" Emily hopes to grow up and become a theatre or movie director. Mucho thanks to the fam, the cast and crew of GNFS, and especially David my co-director) for having the same show stresses as me!
I had the space, that's why it's long. Yeah, I've never thanked anyone but friends or family, and not even specifically usually. This time I did because I was co-directing.
for this yrs musical i made the mistake of putting an inside joke in my bio this yr. it was between me, and my buds, jenna, and lindsey. the inside joke was "did you order cake" i know....not funny. and the only reason we wrote it was b/c it was funny the wk that we had to turn in our bios. and by the time the show roled around, WE were even sick of it. PLUS absolutely NO ONE got it. like THEACTR said, it left everyone scratching their heads
LOL triplethreat.... the same thing happened the ONE time I ever did that. The joke had lost its funny by the time the show opened...
.... so let that be a warning to you all!!!
I just saw a play at my school and one person just put a bunch of comercial jingles as his bio. I'm not even joking either!
