I would agree with you that it puts her at a disadvantage with the voters. I don't necessarily think it's a huge handicap with the nominators. Let us remember Keala Settle's show is also closed, and ran for a much shorter time. And also of course things like The Scottsboro Boys and the amazing Julie White being remembered despite being long-since gone by the time nominations rolled around.
Yes, but a few things. You have to remember that Scottsboro Boys was nominated in an incredibly weak year for musicals. Other than Book of Mormon, it was slim pickin's. And Scottsboro received the best reviews of any other show. And as far as Julie White is concerned, she ended up winning. She was nominated because she gave the standout performance of the season that everyone was talking about. But also, that year there was only one leading actress in a play in a show running at the time of nominations who wasn't nominated (Marian Seldes).
Yes Keala's show is also closed, but it's fresher in the minds of the nominators since they saw it way more recently. And Keala definitely had the biggest standout number in the show (awards bait). I think Mueller was WAY better, but she really was a great member of a very strong ensemble more than the single standout. I would hand her the award personally if I had my way, but I don't see it happening.
And as far as Rachel Bay Jones goes, she got some of the best reviews in her category this season (stronger than Victoria Clark's and Katie Finneran's), so even if you didn't like her, it would be shocking to see someone like Finneran get in over her.
I'm not saying I disagree with you completely, bjh, I just find it hard to truly agree with anyone on awards threads because of how many "sure things" have been completely upset in the past. There's not as much of a pattern as people like to think, in my opinion, so everyone usually puzzles it out as best they can and feels confident in their logic, and then most of us end up being wrong anyway.
I personally would be surprised if both Martin and Bay Jones were nominated, but obviously I could very well be wrong.
Another difference is that Scottsboro was a pretty brilliant show that failed because it was too dark and depressing for the tourist herd; Hardbody (apologies to the handful of fans) was amateurish-ish blandness that failed because the tourists were bored by it.
That said, this list is just weird. And I think Moran should have been nominated, too.
Do you think that Judy Kuhn lost "points" for having played the role of Fosca previously (in DC)? I was very surprised that her cast mates received noms but she didn't.

I was happy for the other four cast mates that were nominated, especially Silverman, but I think it's a real slap. Kuhn was stunning as Fosca.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
I'm happy for all the HARDBODY love because I felt it was truly inventive and original. I especially thought the choreography was creative and athletic, almost in the vein of LYSISTRATA JONES

I am honestly not at all surprised or upset about the exclusion of Patina Miller. I think she is wildly overrated.
I am thrilled about Julia Murney's nomination for FALLING. A beautiful performance.
It is surprising, but kind of makes sense that MOTOWN got nothing, and KINKY BOOTS only got two. KINKY is another that is majorly overrated. I was happy to see things go to so many off-broadway shows that were great.
That said, I agree with everyone who said not nominating Martin Moran is just unacceptable, and the nomination for "That Play" is ridiculous --- is that the same crappy Tom Gualtieri thing that has been kicking around for years?? ugh.

I see the DD awards, as if these are the people that should be recognized, because most likely they wont' get a Tony nod. So, I see it as playing fair. Maybe the DD committee knows who will be nominated for a Tony and decides to kinda say "Hey, these folks may not be getting a Tony nod, let's recognize their good work here". But then there are exceptions, some folks on this list will get a Tony nod and deserve it.
Patina Miller will get a nod for sure...and most likely win, so getting a DD nomination is nothing.
The Mc Clure snub was a head scratcher.I loved Hardbody but what is with the choreography nomination. Turning a truck on a stage is not worth a nomination.
^^^ to me that means Rob will get a Tony nomination and Hardbody will not. Hardbody I am sure will get some design nominations, but it won't get as many as the DD gave them.
Steve Kazee did not get a DD nomination, and he won the Tony. So there you go...
