We're only heading into June and these NBC Live Events begin rehearsals in the Fall so I think NBC will go ahead and announce a replacement very soon. At least they have a year to prep for BYE BYE BIRDIE: LIVE!.
Now, let's see what NBC thinks up?

This has been in the works for some time now. Surely Lopez had her schedule cleared for this when she agreed to produce and star in this. I suspect There is probably a bit more to the story here.
Rocky Horror was a let down for Fox, last night's Dirty Dancing was a let down for ABC, maybe NBC is getting cold feet. I know the article says they are still committed, but that doesn't really mean anything.
I suppose it is also possible that they don't want to compete with A Christmas Story. Perhaps there were issues getting the full cast in place. The producer and star suddenly having scheduling conflicts just doesn't feel like the truth here. I'm starting to doubt this will pan out.
Wasn't the point if announcing this as early as they did to allow Lopez to reserve time to do this? I guess no one expected that horrible SHADES OF BLUE show to make it to a third season.
Yea very fishy. I doubt it will happen, just like her IN THE HEIGHTS movie.
I agree that they should have another show instead of Bye Bye Birdie, and cast Dove Cameron in it. I'd watch it. Btw - it is not clear in the announcement that they have postponed it all the way to 2018 holiday season (so, by a full year). That seems to be the conjecture of the person who wrote the Variety article. It's very much possible that we get a summer musical in 2018.

1.) Nothing at all fishy or suspicious - it is legitimately due to logistical and scheduling conflicts.
2.) They are not replacing it with anything else. This is the reason they announced JCS for Easter. It's their version of a "replacement."
3.) Did someone call this a 'tradition?' It has only been like three or four years now. That's nothing... Calm down, people.

Keep Jerry as director and have Dove do Legally Blonde: the Musical. Unless MGM wouldn't give NBC/Universal the rights.

Not happening. No other broadcast in its place this holiday season.

But, can they pull a last second show off? I mean, getting the rights, pre-production, the team etc.

I'm sure they optioned shows prior to J. Lo's involvement and the decision of Birdie.

And, it's delayed again
NBC’s Production of ‘Bye Bye Birdie Live’ With Jennifer Lopez Pushed Again
At this point, I have to wonder if they're going to shelf this project or eventually continue on without Jennifer Lopez if they can't get their schedules to match up.
After "Jesus Christ Superstar", and a possible "A Few Good Men" and "Rent" is there anything else in the works? I would love more of these, regardless of how good or bad.

Just get a replacement soon with someone young enough to play Rosie and is willing to do it
Can they do another show in the meantime? This is ridiculous
I wish they'd stop threatening us with that live production of a Few Good Men

Yeah like Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella
They need to just cancel this. It wasn't ever a particularly great idea and it's not going to get better with age.
It's not like she doesn't know about this ahead of time. She just keeps taking other offers that she seems to deem more worth her while to fill the block of time that they have asked her to commit to. Dump her and get someone else or dump the whole show at this point. They had a pretty consistent thing with that whole "around the holiday season" time frame with their live productions until they put to much trust into J Lo actually committing her schedule to them. She's never going to give them the time they need to make it work. She will always take other offer made when money is waved in her face.
Hearing rumors this is back in the works with J.Lo aiming for the Fall.

I would hope so! I petition Zachary Levi as Albert and maybe (just for my own curiosity were I to ever direct the show) a Richie Valens-esque Conrad Birdie rather than Elvis. But Elvis works, too. :)

Harvey was set to play Mae Peterson in Washington but it was cancelled due to the pandemic. Would love to see him in the role.
