I'm guessing they'll tape this without an audience?

I don't think Trump has taken part in any while he was living in DC.

And still nothing for Francis Ford Coppola.

Another year without Liza...personally, a shameful thing.
Although, a good group this year. Can't wait for the show!

Carol Channing never got honored. I love Debbie Allen, but Allen over Liza at this point? But happy they'll finally honor Dick Van Dyke.

I’m excited for Dick Van Dykes tribute performance. Hope they get Gavin Lee to do a segment from Mary Poppins

I don't think I have ever been so underwhelmed by a Kennedy Center Honors list.
I have always liked Debbie Allen, but come on.
I have always liked Dick Van Dyke, but I just don't see it. He peaked in the mid-60s.
I do not understand country music, so I will acknowledge that Garth has been huge for a long time.
Midori seems like a solid candidate, but it would not have been a crime to wait a few more years. She is not even 50...of course, LL Cool J was also under 50, but that one still boggles my mund, even though I have always enjoyed him as an actor personality.
Joan Baez seems like a solid candidate also.

I was wondering if Olivia Newton-John has ever been honored. I know she’s pretty white bread and hasn’t had notable output for decades, but she was a very solid chart performer in the 70s & 80s. I suppose it’s because my teenage closeted self was obsessed with her and I still hold much fondness towards her. Plus she made her major film debut in a giant hit movie and it can be said she set the blueprint for country crossover/pop artists that would follow.
That also got me wondering about John Travolta. Questionable religious beliefs put to the side, he is certainly deserving.

Come on, what? She's a 20 time Emmy nominee, she's been nominated for two Tonys, has a Golden Globe, was the lead producer + director on one of the most popular Black sitcoms of all time. She was also the lead choreographer on Fame. Many attributed the success of the 1986 revival of 'Sweet Charity' to her performance. It didn't last long after her exit. If all of that isn't enough to deserve a Kennedy Center Honor, I don't know what is. Especially looking at some past nominees who haven't been half as multifaceted.

Didn’t forget, but he got it because the production as a whole was awarded. He didn’t get it for his general songwriting. Just think there are lots of songwriters who deserve the recognition over some of the current recipients.
